Well thank you Buzzer and Charlie for your kind words…NOT !!
Now then i know its not been mentioned for a long time, but re the Jolly boys outing over Mt. Cenis,
i have found the ideal transport and accommodation.
I bought this from a mate ( Frank ) who has extensively updated and blinged it up, ie top lights…
The corregated sheets i errr borrowed from Buzzers field one night when he wasn’t looking.
Anyone interested let me know .
Hi Tone
Happy New Year mate if we can still say that in Feb.
When you Jolly boys have done your trip it looks spot on for Kay & myself to holiday in, make it a demountable with a little flat & you could go on the Manchester trunk each night or team up with Charlie & do the Glasgow just let Charlie drive over the high bridges.
Cheers
Rich

Seeing the item on Jim Squibb, who I knew from the early 60s brought back memories of speedway at Bannister Court, Southampton during the 1950s.
This caricature of Jim was drawn for me by Orf. during the 1950 season. ( I was aged ten). Have also included one of Alf Bottoms who latter went into midget car racing in the UK. Southampton had many great speedway riders during the 50s sudh as, Bert Croucher, Ernie Rawlings,Morrie Mattingly,Bob & Tom Oakley,Brian Hanham,Jack Vallis,Phil Bishop,Mike Tams,Roy Craighead ,…must stop before I get the old JAP out and do some serious damage.
Stroker 156 DOT no doubt you would have known Mr Erskine from Wellow who specialised in JAP engine rebuilds and tuning from an old chicken shed both for speedway boys and the grass track men as well, he used to wear half spectacles and remember him looking over the top of these while milling on a lathe. I knew his three daughters and me mate married one of them, Marianne was her name .
Another name that springs to mind is Buzz Terry RIP, a farmer who lived opposite Giddings saw mill near Bartley, think he may have been into the speedway thing as I recall discussing this with him one day while we were out driving horses, do you recall him a real nice chap cheers Buzzer
Buzzer, Mike Erskine a very well educated gent and brilliant engineer, he manufactured the Erskine Staride frames that many top riders used.
Cant say I knew Buzz Terry although I was always loading bagged sawdust out of Giddings & South of England Timber Co. during the early sixties when working for W.Reeves of Collyhurst Manchester.

Ah, I spent a few hours in Mike’s workshop having a bit of machining done in the early days. I knew his lad Jon quite well too when he was ridding at Neath in '62. The Staride frame was very popular in the '50’s & funnily enough, was replaced by a frame made by Maurie Mattingly (Maurmat) in the '60’s. Buzzer: I knew Buzz Terry well, & his brother Malc, as they used to come over every week, along with Jack Valiss & a few others to help out in the pits when we opened Speedway here on the Island in 1996. most of them stopped coming after two or three seasons, but Buzz carried on, pretty much, up to his passing. Like you say a lovely fella & I was quite shocked at his demise.
Stroker: You forgot, arguably the best Southampton boy, Brian Crutcher although, I suppose he was mainly Poole.
BigG-Unit, Your quite right Brian Crutcher was mainly associated with Poole, as was Terry Small who had Perc Small motorcycles in Portswood .Brian McKeown a New Zealander was another top Southampton rider along with Charlie May & Alby Golden. Southampton has had a wealth of top riders & hauliers over the years, many who I have had the pleasure of associating with.
Stroker.
Baldrick1953:
February. The month of Valentines Day…
Anxious not to repeat last years Faux Pas , when the whole thing passed me by and I ended up in the dog house on short rations, I’ve been racking my brains for a suitable present for the lovely and long suffering Susan.
I couldn’t believe it when this ad popped out at me from the " Tralee Times " …
Perfect or what? Redemption is mine and all those extra Brownie Points as well when she realises what a thoughtful , intuitive man I am. The Wyncyette nightie and knitted bed socks will be a thing of the past
Sparkly on ice already and can’t wait for the 14th.
Shall I order one for Rose , Charlie?
Hi,
I am growing concerned for the safety of Baldrick following his romantic gesture on the 14th,I have tried contacting him, and also through the local Garda to no avail, Susan is nowhere to be found but they did say his VW T5 Transporter is outside the house. I have therefore visited the local VW dealer and obtained a duplicate key for the van,and will fly out tomorrow to collect it and bring it back to sell oops, sorry look after until he turns up.
Hi Charlie, we have not met but I am glad you only need to check once a week.
Now, more to the point, who is this wipa-snapper calling us old.
I remember Gazzer when he was just a lad (in 1974) before the plastic surgery and hair transplants and he would have been about 24, so: for a 67 year old “pentioner” he sure can be mean !!!
My wife screams every morning because I am alive !! not sure why !!!Harvey
Richard…
Hold your horses… Stand down your Lear Jet.
All ok ( sort of ) here.
The 14th was a disaster really. My well thought out love gift wasn’t well received . Totally the wrong model apparently with the wrong Megahertz or something…
Not to be downhearted I immediately booked a three night stay at a well known local Spa , with all massages , face treatments and meditation thrown in . Excellent food and the champagne really flowed.
Got back on the Friday and Sue hasn’t spoken to me since…
Turned out she had wanted to come with me ! ■■?
As for my beloved VDUB … Sue reversed her car into it last week and dented the offside wing. ( really!! ) she denies it was premeditated

Hi Harvey.I totally agree with your comment about Gazzer
In fact when I first met him I was convinced he was a rent boy.
Bit too expensive for me though! Dont know how he does it

Being the decent Christian chap that I am, earlier today I watched “Songs Of Praise”
on BBC 1. The last hymn was from Romsey Abbey, so I thought I would watch it
carefully, hoping to see Maggie D, wearing his posh clobber, and singing his praises.
Sadly, he was not there, but there was one geezer lurking behind a stone column,
wearing a peaked cap, looked like Mappo. Cheers, Tony and Richard. Ray Smyth.
