Long Departed Southampton Hauliers (Part 1)

Ray that learned Christian was probably manning the border crossing on auto route A36 giving relief to his wife, I suppose that’s what he means when he says he is doing that, Buzzer.

PS would not have been Mappo in Romsey Abbey as he is an atheist.

Ray Smyth:
Being the decent Christian chap that I am, earlier today I watched “Songs Of Praise”
on BBC 1. The last hymn was from Romsey Abbey, so I thought I would watch it
carefully, hoping to see Maggie D, wearing his posh clobber, and singing his praises.
Sadly, he was not there, but there was one geezer lurking behind a stone column,
wearing a peaked cap, looked like Mappo. Cheers, Tony and Richard. Ray Smyth.

Hi Ray,

Hope you are well, you are not mistaken Mappo and I were there Tony got the date wrong and was sure it was "Antiques Roadshow"this week and he was hoping to see Fiona Bruce who he quite fancies, he was trying to find out how old he is !
I had taken a load of old Addis plastic ware which I had bought off a bloke in Wigan years ago off the back of a trailer.
Take no notice of what John says about the border on the A36 we only open it when Frome market is on hoping to catch a dodgy Scania livestock truck, which lately seems to go empty both ways :unamused:

Regards
Richard

It was good to see you Richard in church the other day, after you left the police were called…
Something to do with the collection tray going walkabout :open_mouth: :open_mouth: …now i know times are hard for us pensioners,
but could they have it back please :unamused: :unamused: …if you need a sub, have a word with either Ray,Buzzer or Charlie…they’re all loaded.

On a serious note, it may surprise you lot to hear that as a nipper in the early 60’s i was a regular churchgoer…i used to sing in the choir
at St.Peter and St.Pauls church in Fareham…as well as being a choirboy ( i await the sarcastic comments ) and an alter boy, yes i wore
a cassock and surplus, i was also a campanologist there…

I was also a member of the school choir as well as the school orchestra where i played a flute. ( Fareham County Secondary School )

Where and when did it all go wrong ■■ :unamused:

Now there’s a strange coincidence Tony. I also was a choirboy. Then unfortunately my voice broke and that was the end of

my career as a singer. I did learn to play the trumpet and have blowing my own ever since.

I did once have a frank and open discussion with Richard. He told me that as a child he had no friends so he had to play

with himself. Hence the squint. No offence intended Richard!

Funny how things turn out eh. As a young man I wanted to marry a nymphomaniac tobacconist whose father owned a

Brewery. One out of three wasn’t bad. That was My first wife.

Hope things are we’ll out there for everybody who knows me and also for those who don’t.

Regards Charlie

Hi Tony Mappo, If you need a “sub”, head north and on to the M6,
When you get near to where Dennis Smith-Bewick lives, turn left
on to the A590, Continue until you get to Barrow In Furness,
Ask a local for directions to Vickers Shipyard, That is where
Subs are made. Bit concerned about your antics as a young boy.
Where you an ALTAR boy, or an an ALTER boy ■■?.
And regarding CAMPanology, and being “boy soprano”, I am
becoming concerned about you. I hope you are not batting for
the other side. Ray Smyth. :astonished:

My dear Mappo sometimes you do come out with a load of old rollock’s, for a start I know poor old Charlie is on his uppers and we on a regular basis converse on money saving tips as for Ray im’e not sure. On the subject of churches which one did you attend ? St Peters or St Pauls and as for singing the only thing you ever sung for was your supper so don’t try and fool us we all know you too well. You have always been a dedicated follower of fashion and here you are stating you were a cross dresser from an early age and hence the religious connection in later life with your affliction for sandals and the wearing of, all now is becoming clearer. School orchestra my foot and as for playing the flute I think you got the wrong instrument as well for I remember you being known as very good on the fiddle at least that’s what my learned friend Richard QC told me and Charlie backed him up.
As for thinking it all went wrong I think on reflection you chose the right path as I cannot imagine you as a vicar although there work schedule might have suited you as they only work one day a week, we all like you really Tone cheers Buzzer.

John,

I can see him as a monk, because he had some filthy habits.

Richard. I think you are a very good person and a warm

human being. However don’t steal my material. The laws of copyright

etc.As you well know. Up here in North East Hampshire the Vendetta

System is still in operation. Just a friendly reminder you understand

Love to Angie. Regards Charlie

Funny stuff lads

Hello Charlie One, I see that your location is Alton. Many years ago, when I did
a couple of overland trips to Mojacar in Almeria,Spain, I recall seeing several
times, a removal firm from Alton, but I cant remember their company name.
They had an office facing the beach and promenade in Mojacar, which is now
a Tapas bar. Any clues ■■ Regards, Ray Smyth.

Hi Ray I only know of two removal firms from Alton.

One was Warrens Transport. The other was Alton Moves

which was owned by McGinty. Hope that jogs your memory.

Did you know or heard of Polly Parratt who worked for Rawlings.

He worked for them for a while when he was sober!

Hope this was of use to you Ray

Regards Charlie

Hi Charlie, Thanks for your reply, Unfortunately those are not the name I was struggling for.
I do remember Rawlings of Hook,as far as I know they are still going strong. From about 2003
and for the next 10 years, I used to deliver to an Exhibition firm at Murrell Green Industrial
Estate, about a mile east of Hook, then soon after go for eggs & rashers , on the left, between
the delivery and Hook,It was an old shack of a transport café,which I think I have seen on the
“Scrapbook Memories” thread. Kind Regards, Ray Smyth.

That would be Northovers you are thinking of, they had a depot in Mojacar and specialised in Spanish Traffic

Thanks to Charlie One & JDC for the answer, Yes it was Northovers, who are or were at Farnborough.
As reported on here recently, I will be in Mojacar from next Monday, in my capacity as
Quality Control Inspector for A.R.S.E., the Alcohol Related Scrutineering Executive.
I may be wearing my " Mappo" style disguise clobber, shorts, sandals, & black socks, but this time
wearing a “Partick Thistle F.C” replica shirt, instead of the “Southampton” shirt.

Kind Regards, Ray Smyth.
