Welcome to TruckNet Uk turbod

I don’t think there is yet a sat nav that’s really configured for lorries, but together with a moderate amount of common sense your Garmin should help you.

Hi Turbod,

Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on passing your Class 2.

If you look in the COMPUTER, TRANSPORT SOFTWARE AND TECHNOLOGY forum, there is a load of links to trucker POI’s and the software to convert them from Tom Tom format to Garmin format.

Those with a bit of looking out for warning road signs should be fine for you.

There is the Snooper Syrius Truckmate which you programme in vehicle height weight and length also you can buy the low bridge software for a range of sat navs also i have heard word of Tom Tom bringing out a truck specific one

would recommend getting a proper truck mate to just to double check the route

Thanks for the info DABenji

The Syrius S2000 PROLINE with TRUCKMATE looks interesting but at £363.99 with the UK & Ireland map not cheap.

Have you had a real good look on the Garmin website, you may find H.G.V. related downloads that would suit, I have a Tom Tom and digging around in the P.O.I. section on their website I found some truck related stuff.

i`ve got a snooper sirus truckmate bud and there well worth the money.

I use a 400mhz HP Ipaq pda with Tom Tom navigator 6. Check out the tom tom website for packages that they alternatively walk into your local halfords for free demo…

Hi m8,
I just put low bridge heights as poi, in my tomtom, ie 13ft6 bridge as point of interest along scheduled route, it works atreat. :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Hiya

I have just bought a ProNav today from Maplins. You can customize it for the vehicle you are driving and then it works out the most suitable route, height, weight, width and type of load (Hazardous/Fire risk) it can also do side winds and stuff like that. You can also switch off the HGV mode and just use it for a car. It’s got bluetooth and MP3 and MP4. It cost £199.99. Time will tell if it was worth it.

Hi pleasre keep us informed on what the
pronav is like.

My tomtom broke last week and i,m on
the look out for another satnav. :imp:

It,ll be great if the pronav does all it claims to do.

Cheers

alix was promised one of the first ones for reveiw but we havent received it yet
