polish drivers

further to a reply i had on one of my posts i just have to ask that many people seem to struggle to get a start and yet polish and european drivers come over and find work, even though they have no proven work history or references so surely this should highlight that some of us english are doing something wrong somewhere?

whats other peoples view on this?

Also - No unproven work history - UK employers can easily check on you but how easy is it to check on foreign nationals :exclamation:

exactly my point rog they are employing them blind so to speak, so us brits should be able to find work too. i currently work with many polish and there good hard workers mam i the only one who thinks maybe us brits dont try hard enough to find work and expect it to fall at our laps.

I don’t think we do expect that but if an employer is faced with the choice of taking on 1 of 2 drivers and 1 is from UK and other is not then the employer asks about experience.
UK has to be honest as his record can be checked but non-UK MAY tell porkies to get the job and the employer has no real easy way of checking so non-UK gets it :exclamation:
Well, that’s how it seems to me but I may be wrong with my asumptions - wouldn’t be the first time…

NOTE - I have been careful not to pick on one particular group of non-UK born people.

I think thats the problem bigcheese.

People who come here from abroad, wherever that may be, try hard to find work and get a foot in the door. English drivers seem to just fill in a form and expect agencies and employers to be banging on their door begging them to come work.

It just doesn’t happen like that!

same here pal i think many lads who actually moan aint really looking, for example a guy not getting any agency work then lets it slip that he wont do early shifts, late evenings etc. when your getting on the ladder beggers cant be choosers

Hit the nail on the head, I have made it clear to my partner that if I choose this path I may be away unsociable hours in order to gain the experience.

You have researched this industry well.
That makes me think that you are either an old head on young shoulders
or
an old git like me  :unamused:

This is true. I hate working nights. Really hate it. My social life has suffered, I only see my girl in passing coz she works days and I feel constantly jet-lagged and knacked…

…but I had to do it to get my foot in the door and my first artic job. most places won’t touch you without 2 years so you have to take whatever you can get.

The ‘average’ age of a UK trucker is about 50 :exclamation: :open_mouth:

29 is middle aged!!

29!

Flipping ancient! don’t you get your bus pass at 30?

Alex

yorkie08 thats so true the under 25 was just a chat forum i started not really anthing serious as such, getting the foot on ladder is the real hard part. regardless of age i think you have to look hard and take anything you can when starting out, which is fine with most but what about lads who have a fairly decent job and aint willing to give it up for agency work not guaranteed etc?

In 2, 3 years’ time there will be no polish drivers in the uk, maybe a few, so you’re gonna have the whole industry for yourself
In the meantime, as the world’s power is moving quickly towards the east I invite every English driver to try a new life there, who knows maybe better one
and I promise I’ll ban such stupid topics about you in my country.

Cheers fellas

Is that because all the employers now know that an articulated license relates to a tractor and trailor…In the agricultural sense…
I went through all this with the supermarkets in my previous job, the Polish drivers were a bloody liability if you were a supplier to them, which we were.
Couldnt drive, couldnt understand them, in the end we refused them.
Last I heard the supermarkets got rid because they were costing too much in repairs… :unamused: :unamused: And this seemed true as we didn`t get any…
Not a racist comment, just an actual true life observation

i think some are taking this topic the wrong way i never meant to offend anyone this topic is just to highlight that i think a lot of brits complaining they cant find work really have there self to blame the polish are showing us how its done, were a nation of lazy sods wanting jobs to land on our lap.

and your probably right simon1982 with the way the pound is towards the zloty and current climate and to add that poland is taking on the euro in the soon future and is now a more stabilized economy lots of polish will soon be on there way home packing, probably with brits following.

I completely agree.

I recently got my class 2 and 1 licences, signed on with a couple of agencies, told them I would be a complete ■■■■■ and do anything. I am now working almost full time for one of them, sometimes vans at class 2 rates and mostly class 2. I am still waiting to break my class 1 virginity, but know I have the respect of the agency as a good worker and am confident of class 1 work soon.

It is not about waiting for something to come to you, but going out and finding it!

schrodingers cat

have you not had any artic work your way yet? i would take rigid work with a decent firm who`d give me cover on artics to get a start but wouldnt accept anything less, i know its very picky but i have too good of a job to throw away on hopes and promises and a mortage and family, not when i can ■■■■■ myself out to a agency and take it from there once i have experience
