New Cat C driver

Passed my Class 2 two weeks ago. Did my training through… Err… Sterling in Basildon, passing at Purfleet test centre with six minors. Been working on Buses and Coaches six years prior.

Finding it really tough to get a job where I live though (Norwich area) Keep getting the good old “Have you got any experience” line. Really getting me down now, kinda wish I’d ■■■■■■ the money away instead now.

What does my head in…and not just about driving jobs is. “Have you got any experience” NO, I cant get experience because you all want experience and wont give me the chance to get some experience to get an experienced job! TUH

Given that you’re experiencing a little difficulty, it might be an idea to alter your approach slightly…

I’d say that you could highlight the positive fact that you ARE experienced in driving vehicles of Cat “C” size.:grimacing:
Another thing that haulage firms like to see is ‘tacho experience’ so if you were on tachos on your bus job, that ought to overcome that issue.

You didn’t say what type of firms you’d approached, but my advice would be to try the agencies first. Next, I’d say that it might be an idea to start off with 7.5t work or maybe even van work just to get your foot in the door. Client companies might then see that you don’t damage equipment and are reliable that way. Maybe you’ll then get the ‘progression’ that you’re looking for.

It’s just possible that your expectation doesn’t fit with a haulage company’s expectation, as some of them can be quite fickle.
