name one thing

that the government can do to make a drivers life a better one

Secure cheap truckstops with nice clean facilities would be a good one to start.

a minimum wage specifically for drivers of different classes of vehicles!

Let trucks travel faster so we can spend less hours at work.

Not if I am the boss and the driver.

You are all not going to like this but the gov should cut the driver hours to 35 a week and 3 other work nor somthing WITH NO LOSS OF EARNINGS FOR THE DRIVER, after all they are always going on about tired drivers ect ect

48 hours a week not 38 would work for uk driving work as it would fit 12 hour shifts 4 days on 4 days off rotas get more drivers into work and off the dole. But the government should compensate the guvnors by dropping fuel taxes to what rail and air transport pays (0) and get rid of road tax for trucks. It won’t work on international though it would just crucify what’s left of the British international fleet. So it should be new domestic hours regs with all the existing domestic rules of log books not tachos for all domestic haulage. Can’t see how we’ve let Euro regs apply to domestic work.

Get out of Europe, so no more stupid rules can be enforced on us.

You are spot on carryfast 4 on 4 off more employment sounds good to me, the will not though because they only pay lip service to safety and are more interested with applying it to make more revenue

Scrap the tachos and use the log book as used in Canada etc  Cues the tacho lovers and legal beagles

I started a reply but was up to about 8 things.
The best thing the government could do is to try and change the Public’s perception of us, and then, maybe. Some of us wouldn’t try so hard to live up to the reputation we have.

Bin tachos,GPS system in all vehicles that monitor movement and start/stopping times.Black box style. They know where we are all are.Charge per peak hour use, free for nights.Thought the government were bringing in the black box.Scrap all borders,YOU can not see them from outer space, except the great wall of China. How much time/money is wasted sat at a commi block border for days, just for a bit of paper.Speed limiters for all cars,to save fuel, like inthe USA,55 mph max.

Give us machine guns to do as we please :smiling_imp: Cars with more than 500 bullet holes at the end of the year - are to have permanent driving bans

Charge any foreign registered truck on entering the UK and for driving on our roads.
The revenue to be used to provide decent truck stops at sensible prices.
We pay… so must they.
Neville.

Firstly make some nice clean truckstops where dirvers can get a good night sleep thus no tired drivers.#

Build large distribution centres in or near EVERY town WHERE POSSIBLE so small loads can be left there and taken in to the town by a smaller vehicle with a local driver, thus rhather than 6 wagons delivering 6 pallets to one town just one lorry delivering 6 pallets.

Make ALL TM,s ex drivers and not ex military or graduates.

Make service stations just that INSIST they have toilets and not just a new chocolate stant in the space they nicked from the loo.

Make the drivers hours 45 hours a week excluding breaks but scrap poa.

BAN motorists who pull in to a junction just in front of you then brake hard so they can beat you to the queue all they do is endanger themselves by shortening your braking distance.

BAN hgvs at weekends and bank holidays unless its essential goods.

Ditto what Neville says

Where did you hear that the limit was 55 in the States that went out years ago?.That all sounds more like something which the commie block would have come out with but there’s no commie borders where we run now.Anyway 55 max for all freight trains with GPS monitoring and £5 per gallon for train diesel and aircraft jet fuel but no tax on road diesel and log books instead of tachos but you could always try your idea out in the states and canada and see the reception you get.
And Jezza Clarkson for PM.
