G A Bamborough?

Could be !, Thanks Postal. I really should go to Specsavers !!!

Second look and I think it is G A Bambrough. I can’t recollect the company but the name is ringing a distant bell in the back of my mind going back to the 1970s.

Hi there Tyneside&Postal i was able to zoom in and it is G.A Bamborogh cheers Ray

George Bamborough was based in Chester le Street behind the market place and under the viaduct. Had a large tipper fleet. Think the company would date back to before WW2. Had a lot of AEC 6 and 8 wheelers in the sixties. I was at Washington Grammar at the time and they led all the shale from the recently closed F pit heap onto the new A194 / A1M link for the Tyne Tunnel. In the early seventies George replaced almost the entire fleet with 8 wheel Fodens but he had overstretched financially and ended being bought out by Harry Marsh plant hire. They were from Hartlepool and had a yard at Birtley next to Cawthorn Sinclair but they ended up on the Portobello Ind Est next to Coopers Auctions.
George was a bit of a character and was a prominent member at Usworth Aero Club at Washington. He had plans to buy an old Constellation airliner and turn it into a highflying casino.

Gentlemen, I need some information. After a discussion with an x colleague we were at odds about
this topic. He doubted my memory, could be right in some cases, I told him of a Ford Transcontinental
with a box van trailer that carried the signwriting," This vehicle carries 350000 Fizz Bombs " was it
Dobsons. The number of Fizz Bombs may be open to debate. Thanks in adavance.
