That is just ridiculous, why would you even attempt to get around a corner as tight as that :unamused:

I find it worrying that almost every video/picture you see of a lorry in this situation is of Eastern European origin :open_mouth:

Hungarians used to be true Knight’s of the road back in the Hungarocamion days, not so true today though it would seem :unamused:

I have an idea :bulb:

In the old days the Commie regimes had them so scared that they wouldn’t dare damage their lorry, they also had a ‘comrade’ riding along to make sure they behaved themselves, so when they arrive at Dover, pull them over, take them into a little room and get the Old Bill to give em a bloody good hiding, then send an unemployed yobbo out with them until they leave the country again, this will solve four problems, first they won’t want to come here in the first place, two, they’ll be too scared to hit anything, three, with the constant fear of a slap from their cab sharing yobbo, they’ll want to [zb] off sharpish, instead of staying in the UK and carving the job up as they work for peanuts and finally it gets a yobbo off the streets :smiling_imp:

When I commented on something similar on another thread a while back , I was called a racist [zb], and I was told ( by some kid) that the country could not survive without foreign drivers, I totally agree now, you need the foreign drivers to supply the foreign nationals with their brand of goods. :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

I don’t do PC, a spade is a spade to me, although this bloke was Hungarian, so skin colour is not what I mean

On a more serious note, any Sat Nav used in a commercial vehicle should be truck specific, this would help matters considerably, although why anybody would even attempt that turn is beyond me, he must’ve had to give it a fair amount of welly to climb up that wall, how many indications did the fool need before he worked out that he had made a bit of a balls up FFS, he should be locked up until every penny in compensation is paid and then made to do some form of community service to help restore things to how they were before he turned up in town :smiling_imp:

He’s not the first one. They had an Army artic with a Navy boat on the back, a National Express bus en-route Heathrow to Norwich. Both needed cranes to to get them out.

it says he was following a hand drawn map but took a wrong turn, no mention of following a sat nav

Quote, The latest victim of the narrow bend was relying on a hand-drawn map but took a wrong turn.

Given to him by a Hungarian friend called Danny

How can they award penalty points to a hungarian license

I was just thinking the same thing. As far as I know, It’s not possible for the British licencing authorities to add point’s to a Foreigh drivers licence…

it is possible… what happens is the british will make up an british counter part for you and then your points will be added onto that… I know this as i have a foreign licence and got done for speeding… spoke to the authorities about it and they explained what would happend… ended up doing the drive awareness course instead… before the letters use to go into the bin and forgotten about but its all changed now…

These drivers are pretty experienced, I would say, most of them more experienced than an average British driver. Simply, just because they on the roads of Europe for six weeks(!), sometimes driving through 8-10 or even more countries. So, I would not call him on names…
Their weakness is the language barrier. Also, the satnav took him there: there is a signal at the corner of the street “Do not follow satnav”, but unfortunately the European drivers do not know “satnav” they use “Gps” instead. So, he went down on tht street and stuck in. Probably he was already pretty upset, this can explain why did he try to turn in…

My questions: No one had a mistake like this before?
If anyone knows, something wrong with the satnavs in Colchester, why do they not do somethig with it?

I’ ve just bought a satnav a couple of weeks ago: was sold as “trucker’s satnav…
1: Was lost on the M6 between the J4 and the Fort Dunlop;
2:Was lost on the M1 at Newport Pagnell Services area;
3:Was lost in Peterborough, wanted me to drive through Eye, did not even know the bypass road that already finished for about 2 years…
4: Did not know the West Haddon bypas, that;s finished 6(!) years ago…
5: On the way to Cardiff took me off the road at Newport, then took me back from the first roundabout.
6: Same happend on the M18 just before Doncaster.
7: Always planned my journey across roads with " 7.5 ton except for access” roads.
8: Was completely useless in London, Southampton and Birmingham, especially nighttime.

At last I took it back to the shop. And they gave back my money.

An old post but still relevant,my satnav still doesn’t show the Haddons by pass. Its been updated regularly and the road is 8 years old!!

Nor mine.

bubsy06:
Ban sat navs, they should not be allowed to drive any vehicles,.

Ban eastern Europeans from driving vehicles more like.

Grayham:
Does this happen to us Brits when we go abroad, do we follow the sat nav and just get hopelessly stuck instead of using some common sense?

When I used to go abroad, we didn’t have satnavs we had maps and common sense.and a direction finder known as a ask.

I’ve never been stuck like that but its probably luck more than anything else. I’ve had a few hair raising times in Germany when diverting off route to find a damned maut machine. There is often a very fine line between getting away with something and ending up in a whole world of ■■■.

Yes, I dont like the situation with eastern European drivers/companies and what its done to the western transport industry but at the same time he’s only one man and I dont agree with picking on and bullying individuals when the problem is the whole situation, not one man, out of his depth in a foreign country.

It does work both ways as has been said. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve heared of nightmares recounted from other British drivers about getting stuck in small Italian villages in the Alps or the middle of Milan and needing police escorts and the like. Who knows, maybe those Italians at the scene demanded the banning of British trucks from Italy at the time. We only dont hear of it now because so few British trucks go abroad, if we still had a 50% market share of our own export work then I’m confident the amount of mistakes from our guys would be as equally large.

I have nearly been a cropper in Italy, low hanging flower pots and baskets, low canopies, and low balconies,if you take the wrong turn, you end up on a mountain path for goats and donkeys,or get the trailer jammed in a place with no u turn. The road signs are terrible and do not make sense.
