Eddie stobart job cuts

m4rky:
You couldn’t be more wrong :frowning:

I’m actually thinking about all of the drivers loosing their jobs so close to Christmas and what a [zb] time they and their families must be having.

I can’t think of a worse thing as many of them have been extremely loyal to Stobart’s and must feel betrayed.

And in the same breath they are toying with the idea of having franchises - [zb]

credit to you for thinking about your old mates,i really cant knock you for that, lots wouldnt, but its the world we now live in,theres no such thing as a JOB FOR LIFE[wait for it   ],and at the end of the day your just loosing a job,ive still got my lisense like your mates,it wont be easy but we will all get something if it all goes ■■■■ up,im still not convinced it will, but in time ill be proved right or wrong, will just have to wait and see

anyway time too leave this subject, other things more important, maybe review what does happen in 6 months time,if ive upset anyone with my views,SORRY,good night +look after yourselfes

i rckon stobbies have been overreaching themselves for a long time now. they are too dependant on tosco work. that said they are no different from the likes of wincanton who don’t seem to get the same flack on here as the green machine.

Pulling the plug on their involvment in the world rally championship as well, thats a huge saving!

Yep…

Stobbies stinks. Their loyal (and misguided) drivers are now finding out what a lovely company Stobarts really are to toil for.

I feel sorry for their drivers. Taking on a ‘franchise’ for them with the cuts they are now making…? Crazy idea!! :unamused:

why do they stink more than wincanton? we never seem to have threads on them on here despite laying people off.

If you could turn the clock back 40 years, this sounds like a re-enactment of the demise of HTS except in those days there wasn’t the technology we have to-day so we wern’t subjected to all this verbal dioreha (?) from drivers that had left and drivers that were thinking about it.The modern day equivalent of Hiltons is ,without doubt, the “fast eddie” organisation,it always ends in tears, guaranteed !!! Bewick.

good luck too ady, hope it does work out for you, take it easy fella

it wasn’t that long ago that the fan club was making more money than the trucks. we may see the green machine taken over by the likes of nobbys etc.

Maybe because stobarts have made a lot of enemys in the haulage game

i know but they don’t seem to have done anything dhl/wincanton/nobby hasn’t done apart from that tv series and giving their lorries girls names.

Paul Bird Motorsport have been sponsored by Rapid Solicitors. Another No Win No Fee setup :imp:

One reason is that Wincanton don,t make propoganda TV BS, trying to convince anybody that is daft enough to believe them, that they are summet that other haulage firms aint. In reality it looks like Stobbies are like all the rest, sh planners, sh money, and mostly, in their case, all fur coat and no knickers.

Wincanton/Stobart or any other big firm are equally crap! If they were any good the job would be so much easier! The only difference I see is Stobart have a spotter club who will watch/buy any tat that Stobart will produce!

“We have made good progress in the execution of the structural aspects of our strategy to exit from Mainland Europe and to improve shareholder value. We are now well positioned to focus on the operational aspects of our strategy and to build on our reputation for service excellence in our core UK & Ireland market. Through the delivery of operational efficiencies and contract wins we expect to continue to build on the strong, underlying profitability of our UK & Ireland business.”

Still a major loss! Europe or not Wheelnut! £75.5 million! And all that undercutting aswell!

Quite true Dessy, but that quote was from Wincanton

I’m an ESL driver, I’m misguided as I’m a trucker, its **** all to do with the name on the truck pal!

I came from James Irlam, I was probably in your eyes misguided for driving for them too eh?

FWIW, there are a few ■■■■■■■ at our depot (stoke) as there are at any large depot, the majority - including the office staff & planners - are a decent bunch just trying to do a job & get a wage.

Enjoy watching the demise of the great by all means, just don’t assume we are all like Mo or the rest of the TV show numpties, were not.

Wheel Nut:
So did they actually convince more drivers to remortgage their granny?

Wheel Nut:
Cor! look what dropped through my letterbox this morning. I have used quote marks just to separate the advert from my own comments.

No excuses for I cannot get a driver tonight

 Are they really an owner driver, they cannot plan their own work, I doubt they can go and pull for Wincantons, DHL or Norbert Dentressangle tomorrow evening.

 Tyres. How many pence per mile?

 Fuel. At what cost per litre and how long are payment terms?

I think this is enough to start with.

Just remember the GAR :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh dear :unamused:

There are a number of companies in the USA that operate this kind of lease deal, except over there they don’t have to worry about the O Licence part, the rest of it is the same though, they buy a brand new motor at an inflated price (especially when you consider the discounted price a big fleet pays for lorries) they have to maintain the lorry as the lease specifies, usually at a cost per mile rate.

Over there the work usually dries up towards the end of the lease and they get starved out of the lorry. If they do complete the lease there’s a huge balloon payment to buy out the lorry that they’ve already paid for a few times over. the companies that do this make more from their leasing programmes than they make out of moving freight around the country :unamused:

The three biggest things wrong with this kind of lease are 1, No owner driver should ever start with a brand new lorry. 2, Letting the people that control how much you pay out control how much you earn is madness and 3, Becoming an owner driver just because you can is not the way to do it at all, if you can’t save enough for O licence requirements and the deposit on a lorry (at least) then making money as an owner driver is going to be nigh on impossible, you will not be a millionaire this time next year Rodders

Now having said that, there are people that could be successful at this, particularly if they have a good relationship and history with the planners, a sure fire way to make it pay would be to find a day/night/weekend driver and work the lorry 24/7, personally I would ask if I could have an older and therefore cheaper lorry to lease and I would do the sums on the tyre deal and maintainence side of things and see if I could get it cheaper elsewhere, you never know, if you don’t ask, you don’t get  .

Anyone considering this Stobart lease should get the lease agreement looked at by a Solicitor to find out exactly what their letting themselves in for
