Buzzer:
Two new arrivals at the homestead today, first me new chicken house all the way from Shropshire came flat pack but was put up by two Poles and very good they were too polite and efficient and the second arrival was me Volvo back with its new cattle body so been busy day, Buzzer.

Truck looks tidy chap, how many cow will that hold out of intrest ■■? :unamused:

DEAN depends on there size but reckon 10 to 12 but weaners and yearlings 16 or so we shall see, it has a slam shut door in the middle so you can split the load, Buzzer.

Nice bit of kit then Buzzer, actually thats more than i thought,so should serve you well !

Wheres the tractor pics ■■

Evening Buzzer

Nice to see you bin kept busy mate seems they are spending lots of money on new buildings in Scotland probably before we exit EU if it is ever going to happen.Looks like a bit of overhang on the old drill, do you ever need escorting with your loads and if so who does that job for you ?.
Suppose you need a Landrover with the terrain you have to cope with along with the qwad bikes. Selling some heifers eh is that just surplus stock or a bit of reduction in herd size o just the ones who did not make the grade. When getting ready for TB’ing five heifers this week a five foot high yard gate fell and hit me on the back of the leg and I think I could have won the 2017 hopping championships but did it ever zing, still stiff now and that was on Thursday, the joys of farming eh cheers Buzzer.

Evening Buzzer

That looks a bit sore, and as we know only too well working with livestock can be a dangerous job. We are selling some heifers because we have too many about, which is not a bad thing as we can select the best to breed from especially the pure Limi ones.
The widest machines we carry are usually combines which just require a second man and no ■■■■■■, a lot of cultivators are around the three metre mark so can be moved no problem.

Cheers Wrighty.

Now come on Wrighty own up you were in Hawes on Friday night and fell out with some of Mowdy Bill’s drivers ! And I hope you are filling up at the newly “acquired” Filling station from now on eh! Cheers Dennis.

Bloody hell Dennis I dream of being able to afford to fill up at Hawes petrol station, instead I have to use Mr Closes at Seber. As for mi injuries they were inflicted about three years ago, it didn’t improve mi looks just left me with a slightly crooked nose…

Cheers Wrighty.

Market report from today, boot on the other foot as I was selling not buying 10 pure Simmental heifers which I bought as a group to get the steers and I was dreading it but they sold ever so well making £718’s apiece with three of them only 5 months old so was singing on the way home for a change. There was a waggon and drag load of big bale wheat straw on offer and it got to £100 a ton and never sold, 23.5 tons I know straw is in short supply but thought that a good price you can buy hay cheaper than that.
Got to use me new cattle truck today as well, when I got home went to doctor about me leg and got a bollicking for not going sooner now on two types of antibiotics and penicillin.
Got the chaps in tomorrow putting three concrete panels in the end barn extention to finish that job off

Another busy day at the homestead as had three new concrete panels fitted to the barn extension to finish the job of tidy and only took em about three hours to do the job, better and faster than block walls and stronger, also got the new chicken hotel installed at the weekend so happy hens too, Cheers Buzzer.

Is it a real “hotel” Buzzer where you can check in when you fall “fowl” of your “better half” well it looks like it could have the bunks that you were used to in your days on the road so no prob’ there then ! Cheers Dennis.

Bit off piste I know but I find this staggering, Buzzer.

Bit off piste I know but I find this staggering, Buzzer.

I used to give to UNICEF Buzzer, but I stopped when I read a similar list to this and that they spent a fortune on a report on child poverty in the U.K. Which implied that Britain was behind third world countries. It seemed like political statement to me rather than something to help kids. Around about then I read about the Salvation Army CEO not receiving more than anyone else employed there:

“On the flip side, of the sixty some odd “charities” researched, the lowest paid President/C.E.O/Commissioner was The Salvation Army’s Commissioner Todd Bassett who receives a salary of only $13,000 per year (plus housing) for managing the $2 billion dollar organisation.”

So , in addition to the ‘boxes for Romania’, which my wife has been involved with for a few years, taking shoe boxes full of crayons, small toys, scarves and gloves etc. for Christmas for children there, that’s where my charity money goes nowadays.

I never actually got to Romania on the M/E run, and of course it was worse back in the 1970s, but Geoff and Ginger, from the North East, said that the poverty they saw there meant they collected clothes when they were home and gave them away as they passed through the villages, to tears of joy from the recipients.

On another note, drove back to Barrow from Bicester yesterday and passed an immaculate Davies lorry heading north on the M40 - no fly swatter in the window!

John.

John we have always tried to turn out to our best abilities with our trucks over the years but sadly as a sign of the times we now only run a fleet of ten along way down from our prime in the 90’s when we had 33 on the go, never thought we would have driver shortages as in my day there were two or three wanted a start every week but not so today. When you here our present crew talking about the “stinky express” ie the train under the channel tunnel you realise there are not so many companies still at the euro job based in the UK any more and this is taken over now by what they call “flip flops” Eastern Europeans. shame really but makes you realise us olduns did the job when it was good and enjoyable.
Makes you wonder how long you can carry on as the loyalty thing seems something from the past nowadays but we still have all our memories and no one can take those away from us, cheers Buzzer.

Spot on HRS

Took “Woody” for his walk down on the marsh land summer grazing and it has come back a lot from when we moved the steers out in October, that field is quite dry and bet wrighty would like it to stick some sheep on but will be ok next spring for me, cant wait to be honest as Winter does drag on some, Buzzer.
