Wish me luck

Hi,

I did not no where to post this so I put it here. I resigned
from work yesterday. I was going to stay on till I past my class
2 but my boss went off on one as someone wound him up why
I was out yesterday and when I got back they was all out
and when I got back he was on a power trip and took it
out on me by telling me to get this and that done ect and
saying it in a really nasty manner. I was ready to walk then as
I thought manners don’t cost anything but I waited till I got
home discussed it and decided to resigned. I worked out
that I have enough money to last to nearly march but am going
to look for work from the 4th of January as that’s when I
get my p45 back. I know its a big risk but I feel as I have
made the right decision as if I had gone back in January
I would have to do extra work plus mine as he laid 2 off
for Christmas and he was not offering any more money
to us that was left and Is words are if you don’t like it then go so I did.
I am going to take some lessons in January and my test also.
Someone I know wants me to take a office job with good pension
scheme but I wont to be a truck driver  .

Well done mate it takes a lot of bottle to just jack it all in but I’m sure it’ll turn out well. There’s a lot of jobs out there and from what you have said in other posts they will probably offer a few more beer tokens than you were getting as well.
Best of luck mate.

Thanks for your kind words hollywood.
I am not going to let it ruin my Christmas
by worrying about what if’s ect. I think I
shocked him when I told him I was leaving
but he said he would give me a good
reference but when I seen him later that
day he totally blanked me. I think he scared
now as my mate there is on about leaving
after Christmas and they said we will try and
make you happy but I think its just an empty
promises as usuall. The money I was getting
was not hard to beat but its getting the right
job. I worked 8 years for him with low pay
and lots of work but I liked the people there
and enjoyed the job and the cars that I got
to drive. Then people started to leave and
he was getting ready to retire so he laid some
off and would not turn people away even though
we were already pulled out with it which meant
we used to have to work late and he would not
pay overtime. Money got more important than anything
else. I don’t if its down to bottle or madness hollywood
but a person can only take so much. I will let you know
how things go.

.I think the operative phrase their is,

a person can only take so much.

. I had years of being in a job I didn’t like with people I didn’t like. I applaud you for sticking to your guns - especially at this time of year  , but how about taking the office job, 'cause the lessons u’ll cost a bit and then becomming a trucker in your own time. He sounds like a right [zb], so I think you made the right descion, but to do that now took some bottle. Hope you have a good Christmas, don’t let him effect that and stay in touch, yeah

Sorry all this has happened at Christmas Convoy - but I did the same as you about six years ago. A manager was forced to make a personal complaint against me from both the MD and the Sales Director. It was nothing to do with work, timekeeping etc - IT WAS PERSONAL. He apologised but said he was forced to pass it on.

I told them to stuff it and resigned… I left that job on 21K and walked straight into another on 27K a year!!! So some things wortk out for the best

Thinking of you at this tough time, all the best.

Sorry to hear about the job mate, but im a believer everything happens for a reason,a tough time may follow but stick with it and this time next year ,you will hopefully realise that it was a right decision, and by then you will have your licences and be doing something you want to do,

Being a TRUCKER

Well done Convoy it takes guts to do and you did! I hear people every day saying they are leaving and they are not putting up with it any more, but they haven’t got the guts to do it.
You only have one life and you have to spend a lot of it at work so you should do something you enjoy.
So I wish you an enjoyable and prosperous New Year.

Thanks for all your comments and support it’s much
appreciated. The office job is for the council and I would
have to start at the bottom but it would be more money
than I was on and they would send me on some courses.
I live about a mile from wincanton in maltby and seen this
trucknetuk.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6058
Also I thought about contacting pawsons of braithwell
as I see they want lgv and fork lift drivers which I can
all ready do. So that might be worth a call and its a
free phone number and I know one of the pawsons and
I think they have some vans also. I don’t know weather
to wait to 4th January to most people are back or to phone
this Monday coming as they might be back to work. I hope
you all had a good christmas and have a happy new year.

Nice to see that i was not the only one falling out at work, i to resigned last Friday after over 25 years with the local council, i got sick of all the back stabbing, bull [zb] & being treated like a 5 year old, but the final straw was when they told me i had 18 days holiday to use up by the end of December & they would not let me use them so i was going to loose them.
Having just passed c+e i decided to move on & hopefully have a start on Wednesday with a local firm doing long distance.
As for working for the local council i would say give it a miss unless you can put up with all the reasons why i left.
Good look in 2005 as far as im concerned its got to be better than 2004.

Mick

Didn’t see that the first time round Mick, sorry, it’s got to go  .

Mick,

make sure if you were entitled to those holidays, asked to take them but were denied, that you are paid those days on top of any notice period you are working.

John

Hi mick, My friend works for the council and is friends
with some directors at the council. But she got
stabbed in the back this year. She as worked
for them about 20 years and started a project
off from the beginning and it took off and she thought
it was her baby. Then they brought new
people in and they gave her project to another
women. Even though this happened she still loves
it. I don’t really wont to take a job for the council
and will try to get my foot in the door at a transport
company. I wish you luck with your situation mick
and hope you sort something out with them holidays
and get paid or something.

Mick good luck with the new job. Jayhoe is right they have to pay you for your holidays they should be part of your wages

 sometimes [zb] happens for all the best reasons  just kick back enjoy xmas  an worry about new jobs in the new year

Sorry Mezzz, but if it won’t go through the censor “as is”, then it has to go . Lib

Convoy, in years to come you will look upon Christmas 2004 as a pivotal moment in your life. You will not regret your decision.

All the best. Read through past threads to learn from the experiences of others who finally decided that they had had enough.

And became truckers.

Now it’s your turn. You are not the first who has come this way.

You can ask anything you want here. No matter how daft the question might seem to you, I guarantee you that no-one will EVER laugh at you for asking it.

You’ve found your home. Good Luck!

Vince

Thanks for your reply Vince also I like
