Recommend a driving school in Bradford!

After years of umming and arring I have finally decided to pursue my lifelong dream and train to become a truck driver. Having read messages posted on various forums, the consensus of opinion would appear to be that the Nationwide Schools should be avoided at all cost and a local school recommended by someone else would be more beneficial. Before I part with any cash, I wonder if anyone out there could recommend a school in Bradford?

Secondly, how do I obtain my medical form, D4 I think…is this something I can get from my GP?

and finally as I am anxious to start my revision for my theory tests as soon as possible, what are the best books to purchase to give me the best chance of passing first time?

I eagerly await any replies…

Not Bradford but not too far to travel…

L+T training of Fitzwilliam near wakefiled gets my vote.

If you get yourself to wakefield, i can recomend a very good driving school, i did my C, C+C very good kit and first class instructors.
they also gave me a good referance for the company i work for

some one bet me to its L&T transport

:bulb: :bulb: If you click the link in my signature it will lead you to an index where you can access a lot more info which may be of use to you

To book any LGV training I suggest the trainee-to-be, visits the training school, meets the head person(s) and has a quick look at the truck BEFORE parting with any money.

Using the site Search facility and putting the words TRAINING AND WHERE you wish to train may turn up some recommendations.

And Hargreaves in Leeds, bit rough round the edges but they get the job done See my blog HERE

My G.P. wanted £149 for a medical so I went to driversmedical.com and paid £49.The D4 form is download-able from their site. The actual medical was something of a formality really,I was in and out in 10 minutes.

“The Official DSA Theory Test For Drivers of Large Vehicles”,covers the question base for theory exam, there is a 2008/9 edition available now.I wasted £10 on the DSA Hazard Perception DVD (It only has 10 video clips on it) your money is better spent on a DVD-ROM “Driving Test Success” by Focus, again a 2008/9 edition has just been released. It has about 300 clips and offers practise for the theory test although primarily with car drivers in mind.Everyone takes the same hazard perception test no matter what they are learning to drive.

I would also get hold of “The Official DSA Guide to Driving Goods Vehicles”

cheers guys, invaluable info.

I’ve also been recommended Apex in Bradford and Hargreaves in Leeds. Does anyone have an opinion on them? Anyone used them?

hi all, i did mine with atkins lgv in driglington ( near ikea in birstall ) trucks was old but easy to drive training was fantastic first time pass and prices are way cheaper than anywhere else by about £200 ( i tried loads too ). its a bit rough but there cheap and get you threw it. i also had a assessment with l and t there a good company with excellent pass rates but they want you to do more than the standard 20 hour course and are expensive

or this

I did my Rigid with Atkins, ummmm very rough around the edges. Old wagons and their yard was in a real bad condition. I’m going back 2 years so it may have improved. They were cheap for a reason.
I passed my Artic with L&T, very professional Company. Jo and Tony did as much as they could to book my tests when I wanted them. They have DVD’s for everything, Reversing, all the test routes, Driving etc.
The way I see it, is you get what you pay for.
