Reputable Training School

Hi all.
OK, so i’m fed up with the 9 to 5 and all the crap tasks that go with it. I have decided to go for a career change. I am based in Surrey and looking for a recommended driving school in the South East / South.

I very nearley fell for the glamorous and glossy National driving schools I found on the internet, bur fortunately found this site just in time. I’m now glad I followed my suspicious instincts.

Has anybody used or heard about EP training school based in Leatherhead-
eptraining.co.uk/lgv_hgv_training/
They sound ok, but so did the others

I am under no illusions that getting my licsense won’t gurantee mega bucks etc etc and I know to gain experience I will have to work for long hours for peanuts.

Any advice gratefully recieved

Cheers

:sunglasses:

i would recomend you have a good scan at this site first, myself and others already holding a class1 and struggling to get a start with a company

No offence mate, but reading below are you not under 25? is this a reason why?

**:D   Welcome Yorkie08   ** [__GENERAL DRIVING TIPS *BEFORE* STARTING LGV C TRAINING__](http://trucknetuk.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31611&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=)

If you click the link in my signature or this (Forum sponser logo) it will lead you to an index where you can access a lot more info which may be of use to you

To book any LGV training I suggest the trainee-to-be, visits the training school, meets the head person(s) and has a quick look at the truck BEFORE parting with any money.

Using the site Search facility and putting the words TRAINING AND WHERE you wish to train may turn up some recommendations.

Insurance companies are a law unto themselves and will do what they want to do. - I won’t hijack this thread on this issue because, as you said, there is already a current thread on this one…

PS - found 6 listings on YELL -
yell.com/quickclicks/SP/L/Lg … g/surrey/1

IDEA - you could put the names of these into the site search facility and see if you get any hits

yeah im 24 but this is only a small problem, read the replies posted back many guys of all ages are struggling to find work. me being under 25 is a extra small hurdle but the main big concern is to get someone willing to give you a try at all. im not far off 25 anyway so its not really a problem in my circumstance but i think once i am 25 ill still be faced with same problems as i am now.

im not saying dont do it im just advising its a lot of money to gamble on a job

Aye, I’m taking all views and opinions on board mate, cheers

One of those listings I found in YELL was Driver Hire and I’m wondering if that is the same Driver Hire that runs the agency which is good for finding work for newbies :exclamation: :exclamation:

EP & 1ST CLASS - CLICKY

I put the words - training and surrey - into the site search and got 12 hits

i did mine and am transfering with company (guaranteed job already), due to being under 25 i might have to wait due to insurance, but like my transpot manager said its probably not going to be a problem, waiting would just be worst case scenario. i would defo want think about it alot more if i wasnt guaranteed a job.i dont really wanna stick it with my company as the hours are silly but now im faced as to ive no choice to gain the experience.

best of luck in what you do

regards ian

 Hi Yorkie08, WELCOME. :grimacing:

Not only have I heard of EP training, I’ve also been there and had a good look around whilst I was attending a dangerous goods seminar that was held at their premises.

As an ex-LGV driving instructor, I’d say EP training have a good and reputable LGV training school, and I’d have no hesitation in recommending them to you. If you need any classroom based training, I’d add that EP’s classrooms and facilities are also first-class.

Hi ROG, the short answer is: Yes it is. :grimacing:

Company policy might change from time to time, but I’ve trained Driver Hire guys on both LGV and ADR. Having had chats with various Driver Hire ADR candidates around the country, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a policy of Driver Hire being prepared to help some of their drivers with licence upgrades and various other courses in return for a commitment to work for then for ■■■ amount of time.

It’s just like anything else though, people need to understand their side of any commitment they make.

Also, just like anything else, some idiot will come along and spoil it for everybody. :smiling_imp:

Superb, thanks…light at the end of the tunnel
If I mention you, will there be discounts? :stuck_out_tongue:

Probably not, because I have no commercial connection with EP Training.

:open_mouth: Their ADR guy who ran the seminar might remember me though, so let’s just say that ‘question time’ at the end turned into “the clash of the anoraks” and it then got to be rather interesting for both of us, cos that’s what seminars are all about. :grimacing:
