private number plates

hi all,

right here goes, iv got private plates on my car, now just out of intrest, i would love to know what car or van etc had these plates from new, they end in y so it would be many years ago, but id love to know what had them from new reg .

any ideas if its possible to find out the history of a private plate back to first reg.

its not neccessarily been used before,
it could be that its one of the thousands of spare registrations that dvla holds, someone liked it, bought it and put it on that car
