Hello everyone. I was made redundant in october and passed class 1 and 2 by end of november first time. The plan was to obviously obtain employment driving as it is something I have always wanted to do but unfortunatly have not had the finances to take the tests until my redundancy. The problem I have found is that although there are some jobs out there the employers want at least two years experience. Obviously I havent got this and Im not going to get it if no one will give me a chance. So as it stands I am in a bit if a catch 22. I currenly see the local HGV training centre training new drivers and feel sorry for them as they are people who are spending approx £2000 to get their licenses and will then be in the same situation as me and other new drivers. Hopefully my luck will change and I may see some of you on the road someday. Great site.

As you’ll see from some of the posts here you’re not alone in finding it difficult to find work as a new driver, but now you’ve got the license keep plodding on and hopefully you’ll start to get work put your way.
Have you tried the agencies or are you only looking at haulage firms ?

I assume C+E was artic and not W&D…

Sorry, but there are loads of experienced drivers out of work too. I can’t make out why the message isn’t getting through. This is not the game to get into.
Out of interest, were you led to believe you’d get a job easy by any adverts or training companies ? Just trying to work why there seems to be an increase of newbies or recently passed trying to get into this game saying similar, when there has been a surplus of drivers / lack of proper jobs, for some time.

I must say when i see the newbie drivers training i feel like saying save your money! But like me i bet the trainers are telling them the same as what they told me there is loads of work out there.

Note that you dont actually need 2 yrs experience, you just need to have held your license for two years. Ridiculous really

Some training providers (not mentioning any national names) might do but I would be a little surprised if small local providers did and I certainly would not expect instructors to be saying that.

Got to say that it does get a bit annoying seeing the same ■■■■ pictures floating round the screen on every single topic in this forum 
But I guess these things “do it” for ROG
