Middle east again

DEANB:
Just looking at the Truck magazine December 1975 and theres a picture
of a Leyland Marathon painted in BRS OVERLAND IRUN i assume they
must have done the middleeast with it or was it just a publicity stunt for
the Scottish truck show where it was taken ? Has wheel chains on and
the air conditioning unit on the roof ! Will try and get the pic on here later.

This is the Pic of one A poster left a code for.

Hello Deanb. Trucknet member sandman norman was I believe the driver in the crash you mention.

Here,s one of them second hand.
Was owned by Mick Hayes of Fareham and I did mostly Spain & Portugal with
it in the late 70,s early 80,s.

Hi Tony, I have been meaning to ask you this for about six years now.
Did you ever park at The National Hotel in Belgrade around 80/81 and wake up one Monday morning with flat batteries.

Regards Steve.

Mappo never had maps for that far!

Hi Steve, no it wasn,t me mate…Gazzer was right in saying I didn,t
venture that far. ( regret it now ).
I only ever did Spain, Portugal and the odd Italy in it.

Brit European had one of these for M/E.It only did one trip and I think Ron Carman hinted it was the worse investment he’d ever made! The complete exhaust system fell off while crossing H4!
When it got home,it was put on the France run and I think that’s where it spent the rest of it’s days.

cack or not,in rosetinted gigs…it looks the part…but my leyland allegro wasnt all bad in hind sight or… :open_mouth:

No, they were genuine enough, there was abig publicity push before they started m/e work, think they were on that kids program Blue Peter, anyway met the driver in Yugo on his first trip, truck had all the toys in the cab, fitted wash basin, fitted cooker, fitted wardrobe, fitted perfectly! not by the time I met him on the way back, just loosely fitted, very nice guy though.

One of them was involved in an accident in Istanbul one trip. Iirc it hit a coca cola truck which had pulled out in front of him from a side road. The cab sheared from its mountings and the driver was left trying to steer the cab down the road in a shower of sparks.
