M8 J27 - J29 Major Roadworks - Nightmare

New major roadworks kicked in on the M8 Cart Viaduct (Glasgow Airport) and are causing major delays both directions. They are expected to last about Ten weeks for repairs to the bridge parapet and lighting columns. Severe tailbacks are being experience Peak hours and between, to as far back as Cardonald (Glasgow) J25 W/B and Georgetown E/B as well at to Linwood Turnoff from the A737. Eastbound on-ramps at J29 (St James) and J28 (Glasgow Airport) are closed throughout as is the W/B at J27 on an ‘as required’ basis.

Its an absolute nightmare! One of my works bus routes uses that A737, then into Paisley via Greenock road. Took me 30 minutes to get from Linwood to St James Interchange this morning. Other routes are also tailing back around Paisley are Greenock Road, Love Street, Renfrew Road & the Paisley Ring Road. Also Neilston Road was tailed back for about 2 miles this morning - unknown if this was connected with the nightmare on the M8.

Got a report tonight that things moving quite smoothly just after 18:00 E/B however because of the way they’ve filtered traffic through the contraflow Drivers from M8 Greenock - Erskine Bridge are unable to exit Junc27 so have to travel on to J26 (Hillington) and double back. this of course means another delay W/B to get off at J27 !!

Delays on Neilston Road were probably caused by the various roadworks Daniel. N/B by the single file on Causeyside Street at Canal Station and S/B by 2 or 3 different lots on Neilston Road. Of course you’ve got to consider that the genius traffic management on this road leaves a lot to be desired with all the Traffic Islands and parked cars to negotiate…someone at Renfrew District Council probably got made a manager for that mess !!

Roadworks complete on Cart Viaduct at Glasgow Airport, Juncs 27-29 both C/Ways open and running free again
