M25 protest friday

Just to let people know, there will be a convoy of recovery trucks leaving South Mimms around 2PM on Friday.
This is in protest of the LEZ.
We don’t mean to block traffic, or cause problems. It is just a protest.
Trucks will be traveling ANTI clock.

Couldnt have chosen a better time or day…FRIDAY…ffs…dont worry its only a protest…at least i`ll be ok if i break down…

The traffic will be so heavy and slow that nobody will be able to tell if you’re protesting or not.

If you want to get noticed, perhaps a “go fast” protest down the hard-shoulder?

It does seem a strange thing to do, you would be much better off taking your convoy into Central London and parking at each end of Downs Syndrome Street

Glad you queried it BigVern; I couldn’t see the joke either and I have a black sense of humour…
What’s the protest for, that recovery trucks are not exempt? How about banning showmans lorries, mobile cranes etc…I’ve seen those smoke like hell…
I’m glad of the LEZ, I can’t go into London from January, just right for the overrated sportsday going on :sunglasses:

I am so looking forward to the egg and spoon race

Yeah, in protest that it costs us £300k plus to build a wrecker, and now we’re told we can’t take them into London. They want us to but new ones every 2 years.

OR, fit one of them shiney exhausts at £2k each. All of which say you can’t idle the engine for more than 15 mins at a time without it knacking up. Fat lot of good that is, when all your hydraulics run off the PTO.

Yet the showmen have an exemption on the grounds of… what exactly?
They run older trucks, that are custom built and essential to their trade, and it’s not cost effective to buy new ones every 2 years?

Just Tfl’s attitude. ■■■■ the recovery lads off, don’t want them in here but better keep the essential fun fairs!

I think a better protest would be a 72 hour strike on all recovery in London. Total gridlock.
See how the transport network runs then. They don’t want us in London but they’d be completely buggered without us!

Agreed, so why not do that then instead of wasting your time on the M25? As has just been said the traffic at that time of day will already be crawling!

With all the supermarket trade-ins, I’dve thought the showies would get a good deal; Basic motors all they’d need to do is alter the gear ratios surely? Maybe a bit short on power but most around here struggle to get above 40 even when pulling non oversize rides. They charge stupid pricez for a 2 minute ride anyway.

A specialised truck that is LEZ compliant

Personally, I think breakdown trucks should be exempt from the LEZ, something that costs so much to build and is only used intermittently is exactly the type of vehicle that should be exempt.

I can see London -based businesses facing sharp increases in costs next year and it wouldn’t surprise me if many relocated.

Meanwhile, my suggestion to recovery operators would be to band together and refuse to do any recovery work in the LEZ zone. The first time a broken-down articulated lorry sits on the North Circular Road for four days because nobody will go to recover it will be the day somebody wakes up and smells the coffee.

I agree with what the rest say, no recovery until this stupid decision is overturned.

Most of the smaller recovery trucks (for cars and light vans) are pretty modern anyway, as are the vans with spec’s to tow, but the heavy’s are just too damned expensive to change, and it’s a limited market to sell your old 1 too.

That was more of my point, block the place where decisions are made, but not on a weekend, do it when it counts, even a go slow of recovery trucks through the Blackwall would help.

tell them who’s doing it.

its also due to Green Flag renewing all the contracts and silly prices they pay, making alot of companies go out of business.

This was about the LEZ.

Green Flag has been done and dusted for a while now.
