Level 4/b Aviation Security

Did my course yesterday and now for the question. How beneficial will having this certificate be to me, seen a few ads requiring this and I assume that to work @ Heathrow & others that would be an advantage. The agency that took us (about 12) through the course informed us that a certain client will be reruiring all drivers to have this. The cost was £50.00.

Never heard of that - deliver airside to B’ham with just a photo ID. Maybe you can use it to drive luggage trolleys.

It is required for carrying and delivering ‘known’ air cargo regardless of whether the work takes you air side or not. If you are just using photo ID to get air side you aren’t carrying ‘known’ cargo, or if you are there is something seriously wrong.

Air Cargo Security Level 4
General Awareness Training
This training is mandatory for all Regulated Agents and drivers collecting / delivering ‘Known’ air cargo
The course duration is four (4) hours and covers
Module 1 - The threat to aviation and the objectives and organisations of aviation security
Module 2 - Principles of the cargo security regime
Module 6 - Recognition and reaction to suspicious circumstances
Module 11 - Handling a telephone bomb warning

I thought module 11 was going to teach us the best way to make warnings and get away with it, but sadly it didn’t.  :stuck_out_tongue:

If you are going to be working for some of the air freight carriers it will be an advantage, in fact it could be a necessity.

I’ve done that course but haven’t used it for a couple or three years now. I’ll have to dig the certificate out and see if it has an expiry date on it.

They are valid for either 3 or 5 years, so we were told. I’m hoping that it will help me land a long term job with one of the firms who does the Airports.

What do the different levels of aviation security eg level 4,3,2 and 1 all mean and can the training in these courses towards the driver cpc?

the aviation training cats from 1-5 is for different employees for a example cat 1 would be for the likes of office staff working in IT/HR that dont have anything to do with loading/collecting of freight. im cat 5 trained(due to the nature of my old job in flight operations which includes x-ray scanning).

the training cannot be used towards the drivers cpc the aviation training was set up after 9/11

Anyone carrying known cargo for airlines have to forgo it, i had to as i work for UPS and packages i handle go direct onto aircraft

Wots “known cargo”?

It must be company led though. When I started at DHell I did the Disclosures malarkey and they paid for that, then I had to sit in a room and watch a film while this DHL bloke talked incessantly through the good bits. After that he asked me some common sense questions, after a snooze I woke up to find him handing me a photocopied certificate and still talking.

One thing I did learn is that the security checks at the airlock are not to stop you nicking anything from the warehouse, they only exist to prevent you having too much bedding or a heavy overnight bag :stuck_out_tongue: At EMA there was a gay security officer who thought he had the best job in the world. At least he got to rub down or up against about 40 men every shift :open_mouth:

DHell had Securicor guards on the gates, when I left my entry badge was taken off me and I was escorted off the premises. A week later I had to go in with my uniform and boots and they just let me wander straight into the place, no rub down, no ■■■■■■ & no regrets.

Expected. from a verifiable source like a regular security checked company
