HGV,s lose again

Now were not allowed to overtake on the M42 great when your stuck behind a tesco wagon eh!! :unamused:

Ive only used this section of the M42, 3-4 times since the new restriction came into effect.
So far, even at peak times its not held me up, in fact I found that cars tended to stick to the right hand lane, leaving the HGV s free on the limiter in the left hand lane. The right hand lane got conjested, but the cars stayed there and I never had to slow.

It does encourage “people” to force you into going faster by sitting on yer arse. They realise it’s not a good idea when you jump on the breaks :open_mouth:. Car drivers that try to cut you up on joining from a slip, it’s brilliant for. Hoot them, flash them, point at the restriction and “grind some coffee beans” at them. Gives them food for thought .

I’ll be honest i’ve only been up here once since the restriction came in and it was not busy at all due to the time of day but i cant help wondering what happens when were stuck behind an escorted load doing 40mph

I guess the same rule that lets you go in lane 3 when overtaking a wide load on a 3 lane motorway, that rule being “common sense applies”

used the stretch virtually everyday mon - fri since it started and found it hasn’t slowed me down at all, as has been mentioned all the numpty car drivers stick to the outside lane regardless of whats happening on the inside. but thats the worrying thing, as i understand it this is an experiment to see if lorry journey times are effected by the restrictions, which over the three miles being used they clearly aren’t but how long will the permenent stretch be? m6 to the start of the a42? m6 right through to the m1? either would make it a different ball game, it’s one thing to maybe have to ease down a few mph over a short distance but over twenty or thirty mile? if it continues down the a42, what will be the speed limit? 40 mph as it, in effect becomes single carriageway for hgv’s?
what would’ve been a far better experiment would’ve been to make the inside lane hgv’s only from the m6 to the a42 with sections of hard shoulder used as crawler lanes and just one mile long sections before each junction that are “any vehicle” to allow people to exit the motorway that would’ve clearly shown it’s actually poor driving by cars drivers that cause the hold ups and not wagons doing a steady speed on the inside.

Now that sounds like a good idea… :bulb: :bulb:
