Digi tacho & class 2

hi all. just wondered if it’s worth buying a drivers digi tachograph card, or are they only needed for agency work?

also how many class 2 work do you know of (if any) that include nights out or is this only for arctic drivers?

thanks
steve.

Digi cards are required by most agencies.

There are some on C that do night outs but they are few and far.

I’m surprised that you can get work - there are a lot of experienced drivers on here who cannot.

you need a digi card for any vehicle over 3.5 t registered after May 2006
whether its rented owned begged or borrowed
agency or full time

nights out
some of my best UK jobs have been doing nights out in a rigid
more varied than artic work

thanks for replies. i take it the credit crunch is the reason there ain’t many jobs going about.

That has compounded a problem that was already there - especially for newbies trying to get that first foot on the ladder.

As far as I can make out - there has not been a driver shortage for a few years - just the usual replacement of retired drivers by newbies or by foreign nationals.

where I work 3 class 2 and 2 7.5 we all do lots of nights out (usually) could be anything upto 5 night out per week
more often than not 2-3 is about average

I don’t believe he says he has got work, just asking about the possibilities of it and the relevance of having Digi tacho.

Class 2 are subject to same tacho rules as Class 1 so eventually they’ll all be digital, so get the card. And if you don’t have one you may miss out on a job you could’ve otherwise done, not good to restrict your opportunities when you’re new.

I’ve seen loads of night out jobs in Class 2, finding one that pays well might not be so easy though.

Can anyone tell me how you obtain these digi drivers cards. Someone told me you had to first do a digi coarse before you could be issued one. Anyone shed some correct info on this matter for us newbies. EG how to and whats required cost thank you.

No course required - you can get most of the info on digis from this site or the internet.

I THINK the cost of the digi is £38 but I stand to be corrected…

transportoffice.gov.uk/crt/l … rators.htm

all the info is found here, and ROG is correct £38 for the card.

INFO ON DIGI

Shorter link as that long one makes the page too wide

Thanks for the link guys .So i can take it this digi coarse isnt required to obtain a drivers card ?. Well why the hell did someone say they had to do one there a driver and there company paid for them to go on the coarse its definately only a drivers card they have im well confused

I bought mine back in July.
Am still to use it.
I went to the local test centre to pick up the application form fairly easy.
Most agencies prefer you to have the card,if a haulier had to rent a motor and you turned up with no card it would mean that the truck stood idle because the agency sent a bod who could not legally drive.Frayed tempers all round.!!

SKYE, there are paid courses available to train drivers on how to use the card, they’re not a requirement at all for getting the card, but you would need some training of some kind really, especially if you have to use a Stoneridge tacho (they’re terribly over complicated).

It’s upto the company whether they send you on a training course or teach you themselves (or not at all, but you could refuse to use it otherwise as there’s a big risk of you stuffing it up and getting your entries wrong).

Don’t know if this can help but I’ve downloaded it and its a “self teaching” digi tacho simulator its quite good
