Agencies???

well it looks as though im gonna have to go down the agency route to get my foot on the ladder. got my Cat C just after christmas. what i would like to know is what sort of commision do they charge?. do they take a cut out you wages or hourly rate? second is what good aagencies are there? i have spoke to driver hire who said for me to pay them a visit as they will find new drivers work. i have applied at robert wiseman in amesbury and framptons in shepton mallet ( somerset ) i live just outside frome in somerset. i have spoken to baileys in melksham who were about as usefull as handbreak on a canoe. im just about to post a c.v to 3663 in brislington bristol. :unamused: ADR said they are just C + E specialists.
any ideas or suggestions greatly appriciated.

cheers

Clint

Go to visit Drive Hire when I was with them ( well still am but ) & register with them it will take a while to fill in the forms & do a tacho test which is quite easy

Yes they do find work for newbies

Trial and error mate. If you don’t like it, bin 'em and move on (I should practice what I preach).

They get a certain amount per hour for sending you, you get some of it - if the rumours are true, you get little over half of what they do. Just don’t think about it, you’re either happy with what you’re getting or you’re not.

As darkseeker said agencies get paid by the companies they send you to, you should never have to pay an agency for the work you do for them

Clint.thee.trucker:
what good agencies are there?

Although I’m sure there must be exceptions as a general rule agencies are just a necessary evil mate, good doesn’t come into it

I have no personal experience of either but I believe both Wisemans and 3663 take on new drivers on cat C but it will be a case of waiting until a vacancy arises.

Good luck

Animal! What sort of work did u get with them? ( driver hire ) also how long was it you waited from registering with them to getting your first bit of work. I spoke to a woman in the Bristol office and she said that I tell them when I want to work and they find it for me. She seemed quite understanding that I’m a new driver looking for my first bit of work? What sort of things did you have to do in the tacho test??

I always thought Bristol 3663 was at Avonmouth?

Never really done any work with Driver Hire due to being given an ongoing contract with another agency although they did phone me on several occasions there work & pay varies a lot

They did do some cpc courses which I have done ( 1st 7 hrs at a good price )

The tacho test was on driver hrs how do you fill in a analog tacho from what I remember very easy & what you should already know with drivers hrs etc

But due to this

I have been placed on hold with them until Dr say otherwise

Read your link. Damm. Hope ur well enough to get back on the road soon animal. Thanks for the Info. Just gotta pass this ridiculous cpc test on Friday, and get my licence back from the dvla so hoping to be on the road by the weekend after next. I’ve applied for quite a few jobs round my local area and also haulage companies… You never know. Also got a free afternoon this Friday after the test so gonna visit several companies with a high viz and a c.v to hand and see what occurs. Can’t do any harm.

be carefuk with bristol driver hire also who did you speak to at baileys as i spoke to them yesterday and was very positive was called in to register this morning one big hurdle is you wont get any agency work without a digi card do you knowe colin baggs of taurus driver hire in frome give him a go he runs the kingsway club opposite job centre how did framptons seem to you seemed pretty positive to me ive also contacted georges in bruton who do livestock just waiting for a call cos i have experience of livestock if you want baggs number pm me

Yes mate if you could let me know baggs number would b much appriciated. Send me a pm. Spoke to Geoff at baileys, I found him quite negative and I do have my digi tacho, told me to phone him in a few months. Why you say watch out for Bristol driver hire??. Hopefully gonna hear from framptons this week. Just gotta get this dam cpc mod 4 out the way tomorrow. When u doing your mod 4 cbarnes? Think the test is around £55.

i have to get the money toghether first as out of work at the moment and due to have an op on my spine on the 22nd driver hire in bristol tried to tell me i dont need my mod 4 to drive class 2 with them till 2014 which is not true so its just a case of be careful there good at trying to pull fast ones as its not there licence

if you have got grandfather rights i.e you passed your car test before 1997 or your hgv before 2009 you only have to do the periodic training of 35 hours before 2014. if you passed either of the licences above after those dates you have to do the initial cpc first. a lot of people get confused and i wasnt told this when i first started my course. i had to find it out myself! :smiling_imp:

they is a huge grey area with the cpc i must admit but i knew beore i started but still have to do another 14 hours before 2014 i beleif

the literature tht came with my cpc qualification card said i no have to do 35hrs periodic training before my card runs out which is 2016 so cbarnes unless u dont qualify for grandfather rights and you have to do ur initial cpc then u have 5 years after passing to do it not 2014

thanks for that that is what i was thinking but so many people are saying differrnet things hence the huge grey area

jimmy… how long did ur qualification card take to come through?

Be careful with 3663, if its anything like the Lee Mill depot they will get rid of you for anything.

just over 2 weeks came thru with my driving licence doing ur initial cpc qualifies you but to get a renewal at the end of the 5 years u need to have done ur training

Cheers jimmy. I thought this was the case 35hrs training to do before 2016. First thing Monday morning it’s onto the agency’s and every haulage, delivery company in a 30 mile radious. Heard back from p&h. Theyve not got any vaccancies atm. Still waiting to hear back from framptons and 3663. Let’s hope my licence and dqc don’t take to long. :imp:
