Lovely old lorry

This was my first Lorry. It still exists. It has a proper radiator and an air suspension seat. Nowadays Agency drivers are sometimes called Limpers; going back to when Atkinsons were a regualr sight on the roads you could always recognise an Atkinson driver because he limped and stooped. Even for a driver of average height the wiper motor and the top of the windscreen was dead in line with his eyes so he had to peer under and around it. The steering column was to the left of his left leg so to reach the clutch pedal he had to sit askew in the seat and bend his leg around the steerin column. The brakes were lock actuators with the hand control valve on the rear wall of the cab besdie and behind the right hand. This was quite stiff to operate so as it was pushed down, or pulled up, so the air suspension seat either went up, or down, in sympathy. Although the Gardner engine meant slow or very slow progress at least it was quite a bit less noisy than the ■■■■■■■ or Rolls offerings.

The later mark 2 versions with a fake radiator had a noticeably larger cab with less visible woodwork, but this was offset by the propensity for the windscreen to fall out.

Same lorry a few years ago re-registered.
