Stupid mistake might have put nail in the lid

If we didn’t have members of the public on site then we could probably use someone without a licence. Though there’s still “duty of care” etc to think about.

Pete

2nd DD will see a ban of 18 months to 2 years, with a possible reduction if you can pass the course.

I’d be very surprised if you didn’t have further sanctions from the traffic commissioner.

Shunting does vary depending on who you work for and even depot’s of the same company.

At our place none of the three of us had class 1 licences, I have mine now anyway and don’t shunt very often now anyway.

One has a car licence only the other has C1 and PSV but nothing else and the newest shunter not even sure he even has a car licence as he usually comes on a push bike.

Yet another one of our depots to be a shunter you have to have a full Class 1 licence, but I believe they have to go out on the road at times and I believe there is public access through the site.

But all shunters are trained on the tug and signed off, so I guess in effect as a tug is classed as plant in house training would suffice as long as it’s private ground.

richcfc1:
ive recently been a silly lad and after all the training to become an c+e driver have had my bloods taken because of suspected drink driving and an rta (wasnt in wagon)

been very silly and am remorseful over it.

just wondering where i stand if i end up getting a ban after my licence is returned will i be able to go back to c+e?

this would be my 2nd time, first about 7 years ago before i took my hgv lessons.

Weans ( and adults ) get killed by drink drivers! :imp:

lizard:
So let me see, your quoted as saying,

“been very silly and am remorseful over it”.

Then you say,

“this would be my 2nd time, first about 7 years ago before i took my hgv lessons”

The remorsefulness lasted long didn’t it.

Well to be quite frank with you, what a ■■■■, and I hope you never drive again, you are 1 of the idiots that are a daily problem on the roads and having you removed from them can only be a good thing. Don’t expect any sympathy from me or a few others on here and I suggest that you stay away from lorry driving permanently.

Not being funny but if your drink driving and this is now the second time I hope you never drive a lorry again. You blatantly didn’t learn the first time and you have no respect for others. People like you disgust me

Well said that man!

I’m sorry pal bit of have absolutely no sympathy. Your meant to be a professional driver and your now being done for a second time. Stick to crappy factory jobs and I suggest you walk to and from as you can’t be trusted with even a push bike. But don’t worry they’ll probably be a few pubs on route or at least a corner shop for a couple of special brews.

Actually I don’t think he was, I think he just wanted to know how screwed he was.

The answer being very!

Hate to say it but if your hgv driver you should know better. While I’m working I never drink and on weekends if me and partner going out for a meal and drink she drives and I drink then we have a bottle of wine or beer at home after. Police are coming down on this now.

From someone who has been through the same thing 5yrs ago, at the age of 22 when I made a very big regretful mistake. You will be banned and most likely for 3yrs (2nd offence in 11yrs, I believe is 3 minimum now) I was sentenced by magistrates just as they changed the law to 0 tolerance on DD and had letters from employer (at the time), trainer and character reference and was a multi drop driver so they were told how it’d effect me and my very young family and how I was remorseful etc but they were now duty bound to give all offenders a ban of at least 12 months for 1st offence. As I was young they were not quiet about making it aware that they were making an example of me and gave me 18months with a fine running in to ££££’s even though I’d now lost my job (for only just over the limit everyone felt this was unduly harsh) but I took it and eventually got my car licence back. Few yrs passed and I started my HGV although to even get provisional I had to apply to the local TC and then go to see him an essentially prove I’d learnt my lesson and why he should give me the HGV entitlement. Got through that got my licences etc and I found it pretty easy to get a job (working within weeks of passing C) but a lot of firms will turn you away with 1 conviction though and with 2 probably will tell you to &@)/ off. Now mine is spent (on your licence for 11 for cases of reoffending only and IS spent after 5) and should no longer be used against me for insurance purposes I’ve found many more firms are interested. I’d doubt they’d be so forgiving with 2 on there though and I’ve learnt my lesson I haven’t touch a drop of alcohol since the night I got caught and if I did I’d be nowhere near a vehicle or a vehicles keys!! Sorry about the essay guys lol [emoji846]

Good post.
Giving the facts from personal experience, with no drama, and no finger pointing wagging.
Thank you.

I went T-total when I started driving. Never really bothered me as I never really drank. I did a bit when at uni but everyone does. It never held the appeal and I live so far from town, the taxi cost home is silly money. At uni I lived in the centre of town so could walk back ■■■■■■ as a ■■■■ no problem.

As for the OP, as the rest have said you’ve pretty much hosed your HGV career for the foreseeable future. One DD is enough to send many employers running for the hills, hell even most agencies will refuse someone with a DD on their licence. Even if the TC does grant you your licence back after the ban you’ll be hard pushed to find someone to take you on.

Drink driving is now very taboo, it has a devastating effect on families. My mates uncle was killed by a lorry driver who was over the limit. It can cause some awkward moments when the rest of the family is over and I happen to also be there. My profession doesn’t get brought up, at all.

No worries, I’m still very ashamed with how I behaved that night but know I’ll never do it again. The effects it had on not only mine but my partners and our children’s lives as a consequence were massive. Also the hoops the TC made me jump through to get in to this career I’ve always wanted were massive and enough alone to imprint “DO NOT BALLS THIS UP” in me.
