I learned recently that Joe Whyte from Ashbourne, formerly of J.Whyte and Sons Haulage, has sadly passed way. I worked with Joe and he was a grand chap, latterly after Whytes closed he drove at Ballidon quarry for STB Transport and for the last few years before STB also finished he was on the dust run from Ballidon to Hulland Ward doing six or seven loads a day. RIP Joe.

Loved getting up so much that he worked at Springfield stores for a good 10 years after his retirement sorting out the morning papers.
