Years ago my old man used to buy a 45 gallon barrel of real creosote from SWTD at Totton and and you cant get anything like it today Buzzer

Well there is a shot Kev, and even a mention of them, but just because we have (a) a photo of some including a rear view and (b) an account by a driver who actually drove one doesn’t mean that any actually existed. I’m guessing that the unbelievers think that the Loch Ness Monster doesn’t actually exist either?

SoM had one of theirs on the loading bay,clearly displaying the Percy badge,coupled with the right up confirming where the bulk of the 8lxb Percy’s went,case closed.

Hi Dean, This Guy Big J carrying steel tubes is in the 2 tone blue livery that T.I. ( Tube Investments ) lorries had
in the 1970s and 1980s. Some T.I. companies of that era were…England Tubes, Wigan… Markland Scowcroft
from Bolton…T.I.Desford, Leicestershire…T.I. Stainless and T.I. Weldless, both from the Midlands.
More well known T.I. companies were…T.I.Creda…T.I. Russell Hobbs…and T,I, Raleigh Cycles.
The Guy artic in the picture looks like the one that belonged to T.I. Wilson from Ellon in Aberdeenshire, and its
reg number was GAS ■■?N, a number local to that area. Click on picture 3 to enlarge.

My first driving job was taking similar tubes to Portobello, Edinburgh for if I recall something to do with the Gas industry, they were longer filling the 40ft bed than in the GUY pic and were made locally at BSC Hartlepool. We went straight up tipped and back empty, bit of a push on coming back to do the run in the driving time back then. Drove a Scania 81 but one week me and another lad used hire motors, he nabbed the Transcon and I got an F7 but I wasn’t bothered it was a nice little motor and new. On the way back down the A1 one day giving it six nowt I just caught a traffic car in the mirror and slowed as steady as I could, my mate was well gone trying the big Ford out and within minutes I came across him pulled in by the cop. I toodled past at the required 40mph and was back at the yard before he returned. I asked how it went, he said he got an almighty rollicking but let off but the cop did say just before he went ‘and tell your mate we clocked him too so don’t let me Fxxx’n catch you two again’! Fair one, we took it a bit steadier after that ha! Franky.

My dad had two Guy Big J eight wheelers that were ex William Hamptons. They came with Rolls Royce engines but due to reliability issues they were replaced with ■■■■■■■ 220s.
My dad didn’t have much good to say about them other than they were absolute flying machines.
