Hi Dean,
I’m pretty certain this ERF is an X Iltyd Thomas Swansea…but in this pic was run by John Thomas one of the brothers after they finished.
The load it’s carrying is the clue for me Marley stone. Regards Mark

Thanks for the name Mark !

I too, used to wonder whether or not this Crusader ever did Middle-East work - it certainly looks like it. Anybody know? Here are a few more pics of it to jog memories! Robert

Might be worth having a word with Ashley about that Scammell Robert.

Morning Robert,
Im’e not being funny but I would have expected to see a proper towing hook or bumper if on m/east work back then and i for one would not want to stand in front of it when they pulled the leaver to tilt the cab   Harvey She looks good though.

Posted a few brochures on the Crusader Harvey ! Check page 294 mucker.

vwvanman0:
Tilt the cab!?! No such luxury on a crusader, they had the swing out radiator access.
Great looking motor though.

"DEANB"Some odds and sods.
RHA Letter 1977.

I don’t know whether it was to do with this letter, but the late Bill Bowker used to recall the tale of a tedious debate about depreciation at a local RHA meeting: after the conversation had gone round in circles for ages, Mr Austin Wilkinson cut in and brought the proceedings to a standstill with,

“I run my Fodens for 12 years, and when I’ve finished with 'em, they’re f----ed”

Classic Chris !

Hi Dean,
G130 VBK was one of the Turbostars I bought new from Pitters in Southampton, here’s a photo of it when fairly new.I ran 10 of them and they were good workhorses, and Pitters were a first class dealer.
Once again thanks for all your hard work on here.
Regards Richard

Well spotted Richard. Was that one of the twin turbo 480’s ■■ Bit of a beast in its day.

6 Nice shot of one of their old ERF’s Dean

Just one of many they had in their fleet over the years.

Today the company runs a predominantly Scania fleet apart from a few Mercedes rigids.

Thanks for the photos Paul.

Evening all,

Foots Transport from Southampton run by Eric Foot, John (Buzzer) will probably know more. I believe his grandson Andy is a member on Trucknet.

The Seddon has a Tankfreight trailer so I am guessing it was one of theirs in contract colours?

Colin

I see a couple of Baylis of Pucklechurch photo’s posted just recently. Here’s one of there’s that was used as a yard shunter in Coleford back in 2016, since been sold on again…

Hi Dean,
Lovely pic you have posted here of the Eurovan Bedford integral draw bar.
This van was operated by Trenchards of Bournemouth who were part of the Eurovan group at that time…Trenchards went on to be taken over by Pickfords in the late 80s.
Once again lovely pic.

Regards Mark

I stand with Mark Taff with the Bedford drawbar removal wagon of Eurovan , that is so cool ,although the trailer looks a bit high to lift furniture up on to ,or the ramps would be mighty steep ,because I would not thought this would have had air suspension on back then , Thank you Dean and Paul for posting and taking the photo.

A most forgiveable oversight, if I may say so Harvey: after all, ERF’s version of that same Motor Panels cab did indeed tilt to 68 degrees! Robert

Hi Colin & Dean IIRC Foots transport ran several trucks of there own but also had a clearing house subbing out loads from the docks, Buzzer

Hi Dean your bit on Fruitex of Spalding, remember they had an old boy who started of as a driver for them his name was Aubrey anyways I think when he was tipped in Southampton Fruit Market he used to go round the vendors and load himself back, in later times that became his full time job IIRC. He used to come down in one of there trucks on a Sunday and stay in digs going back home with the Thursday night truck, he organised all the backloading to Lincolnshire for them, nice old boy with a big beard and smoked a pipe, Buzzer

not that much room.

Actually Harvey the comments got me thinking about Scammell trucks. I am pretty sure that the Routeman,Trunker and Handyman were
also built with non tilting cabs. Bit odd really that none of them tilted. :unamused:
