Ocado Dordon

Used to have inward facing cameras at poundland with microphones,if the office bods wanted to just look on a laptop to view live feed from the truck anytime they wanted and you wouldn’t know they were watching one of the reasons I left.
Forward facing fair enough but inwards ones nope if they have to do that then I’m not trusted to do my job.

You should have asked them for a copy of their data protection policy. That would have set the cat among the pigeons!

Simply request a copy of the company ‘surveillance policy’ as this will inform you on how to obtain all footage involving you personally. This too should be welcomed.

The data protection policy should have that information in. It should also detail in what circumstances and who can view it. You not allowed to just have a free for all (despite many companies doing so) and the fines for not complying with the law can be quite steep

I worked there and did get caught on the camera whilst on the vans, they record 15 seconds before being triggered and 15 seconds after. If you hit the kerb, brake hard or go over a large pot hole or round the corner to fast it will set it off, depends on how sensitive the gyroscope is in the camera. They are not live feed I can assure you! I was ushered into the office to watch my own 30 second “movie” felt like a film star!

Honestscott76:
YES they are live surveillance cameras, don’t be fooled. I know of drivers sacked for eating and drinking whilst on the move.

Live surveillance cameras, are you sure?

Drivers really are letting their imaginations carry them away if they think some office jockey is going to be sat there all day, clicking through live feeds of hundreds of drivers cabs. Not to mention the sheer cost of mobile data to broadcast live video from every wagon on the fleet all day & night.

Inward cameras work in the same way as the outward facing ones. Video recorded to memory, office download and view it should they deem necessary to investigate something. If you get caught eating a butty, it’ll be because you were doing it whilst harsh braking or something.

I appreciate objections to inward facing cameras, but live streaming is not a thing.

Incorrect, it is most definitely a thing. When we got our forward facing cameras they gave the whole spiel about “live” surveillance but it wasn’t what people think (certainly with this company). The cameras record live footage that is beamed back to the dash cam companies headquarters. If there is an incident which triggers the an alert the company would contact the TM with a code and the live feed footage accessed immediately and recordings of the alert.
Cost a fortune though so we went for the normal cameras with sim card.

I have rung our office to tell them to watch the antic’s of said Muppets, or to see what a top delivery point they have sent us to, and whilst on the phone the office have it up on screen… So it must be magic, or the aliens are helping…or is it live stream… You decide.

Well to all those interested in Ocado, I worked there for two years and I can tell you it’s the easiest class 1 job you will ever get, yes they do offer max hours but your break is paid and with overtime you can clear 800+ a week and that on paye, coming from stobarts it would be heaven! No interaction with the load and one drop and back to Dordon in a single 10 hour shift, a double is a Bristol/Knowsley run or perterborough/Milton Keynes. Very easy work but they are super strict on driving standards it’s a bit of a Boy Scout company, overtime rate paid after 40 and holiday based on last so many weeks hours, you get a map and only do 9 different depots. All new mercs but limited to 52,weekend working and some silly start times but very secure job if you are a good boy and keep your head down, full canteen on site at dordon and no pressure to hit a booking in slot, telemetrics are in place but not used aggressively like Dpd! I started in the vans and moved over but as I said attendance is a big thing there and it’s mainly weekend working, brilliant job to max hours for easy money or just do single runs but on the single runs it’s only 40 hours so low pay. Hardest depot they have is Ruislip/London but make sure you follow the map as they are all 16”4 trailers and your sat nav won’t work down there! if you want a steady plod along job and don’t mind the monotony it’s a good number. I’d say out of all the other places I’ve been Dpd, Euro car parts, Hermes,CEVA/continental tyres/stobarts Royal Mail it’s by far the best.

Can you follow the map while the camera is watching you? [emoji23]

United Biscuits or now known as Turkish Delight have cameras everywhere, on the bays, in the cab, in the yard.

I know this is an old thread so apologies.

I did a shift there for agency, and it was only the one.

Pay was 12.50 days 13.50 nights. They give you a map, which you MUST follow. You are not allowed a sat nav in the cab or a phone with sat nav. Apparently they deem getting a piece of paper out and studying it to figure out where you are and which turn is next.

The trucks are in good nick, they expect them washed down at the end of the shift and there’s a POL point in site so you can refuel easily.

If you don’t mind the big brother watching you constantly and hunting for a reason to sack you and don’t mind doing the same thing day in day out then it’s easy. Probably suit blokes wanting to push out a couple of years to retirement. If you hit a road closure and need to divert then I hope you’re homing pidgeon senses are active because if you get a sat nav out you’re sacked.

I did one shift, got quizzed why I detoured on the way back, m6 was closed, I didn’t go back.

If I get my weekly case of Cotes du Rhone delivered to my house by some scruffy oik who will not conform to simple rules about cameras I shall report them directly to M&S

What’s gonna happen when Waitrose part company with Ocado??

Full case of M&S CdR weekly?
You`ve just gone up a notch in my estimation, mate.

The cost to send live video feed constantly would be immense and is not possible due to file size and 3g connectivity.

What they can do is upload the footage of around 30 secs to a server and email a specified email address/es if the camera g sensor is set off.

That’s what the Smartwitness KP1s that our vehicles are fitted with now do. So yeah set the g sensor off and it uploads the clip.

advert on indeed for class 1 drivers, £10.09 an hour, that doesn’t sound like a good package to me…

£12.50 on LTD, upto £16.00 on overtime…and you will be over your 40 hours by a minimum of 10 hours!

Can’t argue with all the camera politics but you can pull in a decent few quid if you can put up with it!

Ive been driving for Ocado for near on 7 years, definitely on of the easiest jibs Ive done. The money isn’t the best, but its relevant to the work done. Ive seen the comments about being planned in for a max of 15 hour days … not sure where that info comes from but i can tell you its not happening. Some shifts do have double runs, usually start times from around 2am onwards, but the guys are fighting to get those shifts because its a good earner. Yes, there have been people escorted off site because of something seen on the camera, but that’s usually them on the phone texting or making a phone call. The camera is triggered by harsh or heavy braking etc… and records the 15 seconds before and after. One lad has been given a final warning for tail gaiting…and rightly so. Play by the their rules and and its a pretty easy life.

‘‘You will need to be a Ltd Company or be willing to become one after 12 weeks.’’

W T actual F? Is this to avoid pay parity with perm drivers?

slowlane:
Standard pathetic nannying big brother [zb].

Nothing whatsoever to do with safety. It’s about “ensuring compliance” and controlling every single aspect of a worker’s life. It’s a brilliant screw for management though, because you know that if you ever need to fire a driver, you only need to watch their camera until they sneeze, yawn or wave at another driver and boom throw them in the bin. Plus, once you’ve filtered out the drivers who won’t stand for it, the ones who can’t keep to the rules, you’ve got yourself a heard of docile sheep to push around.

Totaĺly spot on bro…

The usual…

Don’t want to pay the driver the proper rate tactic of course.

It’s odd that they can pay you (one assumes) for 12 weeks on PAYE but after 12, you have to go Ltd. I’d be saying bollox to that, it’s PAYE all the time or I’m walking after 12 weeks.

‘Immediate starts’ because they can’t get anyone to work there under the conditions of the contract I suspect.
