The first photo was taken at one of the works trade shows at their Ogden Lane, Openshaw mill in 1960.

Good photos of 1960s. I beleive some of the Ward and Goldstone tractor unit was sold to Mount School of Motoring Cross lane Salford about 1974. I dropped off and picked up a workmate from Mounts office and this is where I got the info. Regards Kev

Rush hour on the A6 London Road Hazel Grove in 1973.

Crown paints Commer on Ward Street Blackley.

Dodge four wheeler operated by R. Winder & Sons Ltd Bolton.

Junction of Ashton Old Road and Grey Mare Lane.

British Road Services Bedford TK tractor unit parked outside the BRS repair centre on Palmerston Street.

Cantrell Street off Ashton New Road Clayton.

James Spencer Albion on Drayton Street Hulme. (Click on picture for wide screen view)

Roadworks on Kingsway Didsbury in 1959.

As ever Paul, a great collection of pictures. Regarding the Crown Paints Commer,
Reed Transport at Darwen did a vast amount of Crown Paint work, particularly on their
night trunk changeovers at Newport Pagnell. I seem to remember that in the 1970s,
I was told that The Reed Group and Crown Paints were part of the Daily Mirror Group.
It seems to make sense, with Reeds being a major manufacturer of newsprint reels.

Nice to see one of Oliver Harts 8 wheeler Leylands on Ashton Old Road.

The James Spencer Albion reminded me that they had a small depot at Tram Street
in the Platt Bridge area of Wigan. I don’t know whether the old tram depot was a
former site of Wigan Corporation Tramways, or perhaps Lancashire United Transport.
James Spencers main work from Wigan was multiple shop deliveries of Heinz Canned
Foods from the factory at Kitt Green.

Thanks for the pictures, Regards, Ray.

Did you clock the rarity in this photo, Paul??

I do know what it is, but does anyone else?

Chris, I have had a quick look for the rarity in the picture, Is the car
behind the Ford Corsair an NSU Prinz, or maybe a Simca ?
Thank you for the Scout/Ribble info, Regards, Ray.

Yes, it’s a hearse… :open_mouth:

I Think the leading Triumph is a Dolomite Sprint.

Does the name of the rare car rhyme with Kilburn ?

Regards John.

Probably the fact that as its Greater Manchester it’s not raining for a change.

To be uber anorak, I think a 1500, as the Dolomite & Sprint had a black inset rear panel

That’s not the one I was aiming at but I think that that is a Fiat 850 Coupé?

The one right in the foreground is a Gilbern - John “old 67” got it

You’re welcome ref Ribble stuff - I was born and brought up in Frenchwood, and the wall of the Central Workshops was the boundary of the school playground, with the school canteen next to the Preston depot, so it was all around me

Was this the only car made in Wales, fibreglass, with a 3 pointed crown or similar as an emblem? A local has one stuck in a garage that he’s ‘doing up.’

That’s the one, John, although not the only one - there was also the Davrian, an Imp-based coupé used mainly for rallying and not widely known outside its enthusiast base.

This is the final iteration of the Gilbern the Invader Mk.3:

And a smarter-than-average Davrian:

I think that the badge on the Gilbern grill represents a Welsh Dragon, Regards, Ray.
