I Shift problems

Only have 3, 6,9 and top gear, its skipping two in between and cant be selected manually either. Has anyone else experienced this? Google throws up very little with this particular problem. Luckily the power/torque is there to ride over it and it got me home. Its at the local Volvo dealer now, hoping its not too serious… :frowning:

Sure his 120,000km volvo is in the stealers with box issues.

My new one is 2 months old, had a new ECU already, the dashboard stopped working all together… And the night heater kept locking itself out and would not work!!

I’d settle for my mk1 back tbh, you go into Volvo here and it’s like playtime at secondary school’ kids all over.

We had one do this recently, Volvo dealer said is was a worn clutch & they replaced the clutch, this did not cure the issue,we then removed the gearbox as Volvo were only willing to fit an exchange unit, we sent it off to our local transmission specialist, a shaft was found to be broken, they replaced it & all was good again.

Its only a few months old, hoping its not a broken shaft. Its the dual clutch version and i cant find much info on it re problems. The 750 version has its torque limited in the first six gears which does suggest the current I Shift is possibly nearing its power limitations.Its the ‘long haul’ version with overdrive top gear. Theyre open 24/7 , said they would investigate this evening and get back tomorrow…

We’ve had two break, not duel clutch tho, one was a clip on 2nd motion shaft, othe was a broken spring on pressure plate.

Youve sussed it mate. Taking it off the road for a week means Andrew gets to keep his toy to himself. :smiley: Hope it gets sorted quickly Andrew. Under guarantee isnt it? But being off the road isn`t good anyway you look at it.

That seems to fit some of the questions referred to in this old discussion.On that note the I shift provides an ultimately massive torque input capacity at the top of the range.The obvious question then being how does a single counter shaft helical gear train supposedly trump Fuller’s twin countershaft straight cut design ?. :bulb:

Maybe we’re now seeing some signs that the I shift isn’t everything that it’s made out to be v a manual Fuller.

I’ve had some gearbox issues this last week, but now sorted. Had a piece break off the main shaft causing other problems, so Volvo replaced the whole gearbox under warranty. Andrew. Did you try a’quick reset’ (hazards + isolator) ■■

Had it looked at last night and its the complete I Shift ECU which needs replacing, theyve ordered one in overnight delivery so hoping it can be fitted and reset for tomorrow/ monday. Apparently this is the third one in as many months so they pretty much knew what the problem was. They did try to reset it Geoffo to no avail…

Thats not great when its a pretty much a top spec unit. For the price, I’d expect better.

Hopefully back on the road for monday fingers crossed mate. Failing that theres a spare R620 i can rent for the week if needed, the missus may have to take that instead… :slight_smile:

Thats not great when its a pretty much a top spec unit. For the price, I’d expect better.

Youre right, its not good. I got it back home fully loaded just south of Madrid but wouldnt have wanted to take it outbound /return for that distance. Hoping its not going to be a recurring problem.

Just so so many issues with this version 4 it’s not like it’s a new product any more is it? I used to be all out Volvo but wouldn’t want one giving these days I’m afraid. Any way hope you get it sorted and it stays sorted good luck!

Gearbox sorted, new ECU fitted and reset. The missus is leaving the yard shortly, a day late but with no timed deliveries its not a problem. Hooked it up for her and ran it up the road through the gears fully freighted and it seems fine… :smiley:
