Leyland Hippo with sleeper 1960. (click on page twice)

Hi Deano,
That was an old model Super Hippo Dean probably had a leyland 600 unit under the bonnet interesting though.

I wasn’t the only one who drove ours.
We had 3 Super Hippos over the years mine originally had a Leyland 690 engine which destroyed itself as a lot did with the rear mounted turbo, it seized on the rear main.
The green one had a Rolls Eagle mk 3 engine set at 305hp good at night when it was cold but impossible to keep cool during the day it destroyed itself. It had a factory built sleeper similar to the Crusaders.

I repowered mine with a 220 ■■■■■■■ 13speedR/R was good to drive I never pulled triples with it but doubles it handled well.
Cheers Dig

Maybe not quite as bad as the Sandbach nesting boxes.

Ah , ROF returns , have you been cowering in t’shed at t’allotment trying to hold the roof on in the gales? You don’t frequent these pages much lately hope you’ve been ok . No bother up our end , if we get flooded in Buxton you lot in Macc are buggered .

Now then, young Rigger, I’ve spent a month’s hard graft down in God’s Own County over Christmas & the New Year- the local cider makers needed help to clear their excess stock. The job’s unpaid but I figure that it’s my duty to “put something back” into the local economy. While I was there my family persuaded (!!!) me to spend some of the sprog’s inheritance on a short break in the winter sun- purely for medicinal purposes, of course. All this meant that I had let the admin slip at th’allotments so I’ve been busy trying to catch up. Thankfully the shed roof wasn’t quite as bad as I had thought and it withstood the weather.
Following the failure of my overpriced R&S Courses, I have been looking for another project for my company; I have come up with what I believe to be a wonderful service for those of us that suffer from long-term back problems due to sitting on Atkinson and Foden seats, not to mention the years of “handball” that were forced upon us due to our employers failure to invent pallets and flt’s. I am convinced that the gentle exercise known to a few people as “Digging” would be beneficial both to those who suffer from the above complaint and as a method of prevention for those who do not yet have this problem.
Luckily, I have the materials to hand- half an acre of unbroken allotment and a couple of well-sharpened Spear & Jackson spades. Two-day courses are due to start on the first Saturday in March, weather permitting and would be available for a modest donation. Tea and cider will be provided, applicants will be expected to supply their own wellington boots and personal safety equipment.
There is sure to be a great demand for this service, so book your place early.

Half an acre■■? Thats not an allotment thats a flaming farm . Aside from my pathological dislike of any kind of digging , I have just given up the demon tobacco and could be prone to sudden violent bouts of rage . Other mu er customers of your no doubt over priced attraction could be in mortal danger at these times . Surely there must be a large pool of mentally challenged in Macc who could be conned into joining your scheme , just let it be known that there is a buried hoard there , that should get them enrolled . I’m staying in Buxton there are no rivers where I live . I could be cajoled into coming in spring , but in a supervisory role providing there is any cider left by then . Ta ta for now .

Mmm, ‘two day courses starting on a saturday’ eh. So working on the land at weekends when good folk should be resting following a week of graft, can’t see many takers for that to be honest? Saturday afternoons are for watching footie on telly, sunday mornings it’s church time, so basically it doesn’t leave a lot of time for digging your plot. Fitting a saturday morning and a sunday afternoon in (even allowing for presumably my payment at double bubble?) wouldn’t make me enough ‘brass’ for me to want to get in the motor and come to Macc twice in a weekend. Twice a year would be once too often! So I reckon you are on your own there ROF, you really need some out of work grave diggers, they work cheap!

None of which has anything to do with sleeper cabs! :unamused:

Pete.

Blimey Coomsey, I hope that container’s empty, or he’ll be working those 6 gears all day! :open_mouth: Robert

For sure Robert, assuming it’s a Ford chassis !!■■

Axles look similar. Could have something a bit stronger than a Ford 6 litre under the cab, talking of which- what superb workmanship. The lines follow those of the original cab perfectly, unlike European high roof conversions of Scanias, all of which look like sheds. Where is it? I’m guessing Chile, for a pint.

Ford offered ex works 6 x 4 's this is a twin spring model by A.W.D.It’s probably got a Perkins V8 with Ford on the rocker covers

Tyson Burridge went one better and built a full cab

And what about this one? Solid rubber tyres, crank-started engine and open bunk…

Yes, you are right. I’d forgotten about their Dennison look-alike that was really a dodge. They also ran Dennisons. There’s an article about it somewhere on these threads. Ro

I know Edmund Crows built the cab i have the same article as you i expect. But the top half definately looks like the Sisu cab
used on the Dennison. They operated 2 Dennisons and i wondered if they canabilised one and had Crows convert it ? The doors
windscreen and sleeper window and air intake are identical to the Dennison cab.
