Call me a pessimist but I just know all this new found love and admiration for ‘key workers’ will evaporate fast when things settle. It’s happening already, with NHS staff being shafted with a pathetic pay rise. If the government think they can get away with doing that right now, and frankly with our idiotic voting public they can, I can only imagine what’s to come. Plus Truck drivers are fast returning to the pariahs we’ve been for decades.
Ask a nurse or doctor what they prefer, for everyone to stand at their front door bashing pans once a week or people who vote accordingly
Herewith ends the sermon. Peace Be With You
I dont get how a country can keep constantly giving away extra money though.
We have been giving extra money to people on benefits.
We have been paying for children to eat while at home.
We have been paying people up to £2500 to sit at home for what could be over a year now.
We have been paying for students to be given laptops.
We have given grants to the self employed.
Given business rate relief.
Given extra funding to councils to prop them up due to their funding drying up.
Spent billions on covid r&d.
the list goes on. Everyone is asking for extra money not just the NHS. I mean I am a socialist but this just makes no sense to me.
Or maybe, just maybe, hear me out on this radical idea…the country isn’t as poor as we are led to believe by successive Tory governments who’s ultimate aim has long been to cut what they can where they can.
We’ve had free food & drinks ) from when it all started ( assume it was covid related as started same time ) , comming down from ■■■■■■■■■■■ last week had breakfast Carlisle , dinner Appleton ( light snack ) & tea rugby+ drinks at all , I guess a saving of £15 that day , often have meals & drinks at £8/9 per go so I’d say I save over 4 days £50/£60 pw in food , , £3,000 p.a + it’s much better than a re- heated frozen meal in your lorry , freshly cooked

I don’t think it’s any secret, and I’m sure I’ve seen the info from several big news outlets, but my current understanding is that Covid has left the country with a national debt not dissimilar to the one from WWII. So that’s how we’re “affording” to do it.
dozy:

We are not poor. We are borrowing at unstainable levels though.
It is nuts. We will be paying this back for the rest of our lives.
I think a 1% increase is fair. Although no doubt the government will backtrack on it.
This Tory government is not a Tory government. Basically a new labour government their manifesto promises were basically huge spending sprees
^^^ A quality docudrama highlighting the civic mindedness of a group of teenage girls actively going out into the community to help poor men at a grass roots level all the time using the opportunity to earn money to visit different parts of the country in support of the local team. A stunning glimpse into middle America.

Oh well, so be it. We’d be paying tax anyway so not much changes.
1% fair? I suppose that could be argued in a normal year but after a year when the government have been so inept and ■■■■■■ billions up the wall needlessly I think they have a point. All that clap for carers, all those companies binging up the NHS with sycophantic nonsense with the sole aim of burnishing their public image, all the bandwagons the government have jumped on just turns out to be pointless bull***t when it comes down to it. Like I say if people want to make a difference engage with politics and vote accordingly, standing at your front door tapping a pan with a wooden spoon really isn’t it
It’s nice to hear that a few companies still actually value their drivers and show it, by gestures of generosity and appreciation.
A direct contrast to working for the type of ■■■■ outfit that would rather take off you than give you something.
Only advice I would give to those drivers is to reciprocate by giving a 101% back, in terms of going that extra mile.
If crap firms would only realise this they would probably change their ■■■■ poor methods of man management.
As I’ve said countless times on here, they reap what they sow.

Spot on, yes the company showed their appreciation via a decent bonus (the genuinely humbling message of thanks alone the way it was delivered would have been enough, but the financial gesture was appreciated too), and yes a hundredfold, if you are lucky enough to work for such a company do your very best to ensure it prospers.
