Hiya,
Yes.
thanks harry, long retired.

Anyone got any info or picks of AJ Butterworth from Greenfield or Fletchers also from Greenfield■■?
Thanks…

Booles changed the paint job about 10 years ago only having booles on them and loosing tools as everyone knows them there’s been a lot of changes over the years as you all can see in the pictures

Hi S.T.H This is the only photo I have of Butterworths I think the man who may have/know more about them is moomooland he comes on here quite regular so keep looking in.

One of the worst places in the area to unload. I’ve spent hours waiting for the last of their lorries to leave the yard at around 10.30 am before they started unloading. With, of course, the damned phone ringing every fifteen minutes asking how much longer I was going to be there!

it must have been some years ago as all the trucks are all out before half 7 now unless it’s a driver running back from a night out then they load them up for that day

Yep, must be at least 15 years. We used to bring full loads of tube from Corby.

Long unloading times seem to be the norm with all steel stockholders, and they don’t pay demurrage. I will not take a backload these days if it is going to a steel stockholder, just not worth doing.

You’ve got it right, Gingerfold- slow loading one end then slow tipping the other. And of course, it’s always the driver’s fault!

The ■■? Burton, Middleton mentioned by Boden was probably Thomas Burton whose yard was on Boothroyden Road, Rhodes. They had navy blue or black tippers doing coal and demolition in the sixties, I don’t know how far they used to go but I do remember seeing three of their wagons on the A57 near Worksop once with greedy boards and a load of coal.

My parents used to have the car tuned at BVRT which is/was, I think, part of Vita

They also had 3 flat lorries on A-Licence, two AEC Mercurys and an AEC Mammoth Major Eight Mk.V which Harry Roscoe of HKR Transport (mentioned in Boden’s post) bought along with their A-Licences in 1963 or 1964. They were dark blue in colour.

British Vita Racing Team, they had a garage near Hollingworth Lake where they used to work on their rallying cars. I think that they did a management buy out sometime in the late 70’s/early 80’s.

I remember that Thomas’s son was called Albert who had a dark blue Rolls Royce, rego number AB 11. His wife Doris had a white Sunbeam Alpine convertible rego number DB 25. I use to love seeing that Sunbeam with the top down in the summer of 1966 when ever she came to the garage where I was working at the time.
