Warning for all in Luxembourg

Well, after a brief discussion on another thread about coming off the transit routes for fuel and “other stuff” and who pays the fines, i can offer a warning to all of you…

Last night coming down to Swiss i came off at J1 and headed into Mark’s as per normal, Police were waiting just as the road levels out before the tree’s. Pull’s me in, gives the truck and trailer a decent going over then asks for my license, cmr’s, etc etc. He then asks for 145 Euro’s to which i reply Mark pays. So, after a bit of a heated debate with the copper, he says i can go to Marks to see if he will pay the fine… On foot!! He took my keys off me, and told me to get on my toes. I had no choice, as i only had English on me, and he flatly refused to accept it, so off i toodles to Marks, where he tells me he will pay the fine when i fill up, but dont hold my breath as there hasnt been a truck in for 3 hours!

The Police had been stood there for 3 hours nicking each and every truck that came off the motorway, and then would ■■■■■■ you up to the roundabout and back to the motorway, making sure you didnt fuel up at Marks. In the end he got ■■■■■■ of with me, and escorted me and 4 others back to Cappeln Services where we waitied until it got sorted out…

When they finaly came back with my Paperwork about 10 last night, the 2 young coppers were pretty decent and warned me that there is going to be lots more of these happening nowadays, as they are getting mighty ■■■■■■ off with it.

So Beware if you are thinking about coming off into Marks or Route66. I shall certainly think twice about it now.

If they do clamp down on it, it looks like a good shop (Route 66) and a good garage ( Marks) both of which offer excellent facilities to drivers could at the worst case end up closing down which would be a very sad state of affairs.

Apologies but can you tell me exactly why the cops are fining you for filling up??

I’m not a euro driver so you’ll have to excuse me asking what is probably a very stupid question

Not for fueling up fined for going off the transit route ie the motorway/main route. Coming off at a junction then doing a few miles/yards even to a fuel bunker/station. Weight limits etc as soon as leave the main route through.

Sure Buzz will expalin better!

thanks Imp :bulb:

Jeez, guess I’ve been pretty lucky then.

My sister used to live in Colmar Berg and on two occasions I came into Luxy via Bastogne and drove down through Ettlebruck to her place and parked the truck at the Goodyear factory to spend the weekend with her.

Guess they might have called that 'leaving the ransit route & put a scaffold up to hang me on the spot??

Ross. :sunglasses:

It goes like this.

The MEP who I’m told lives in that area, gets onto the Chief Constable (or whatever they call him/her in Lux) complaining about all those nasty noisy trucks disturbing him while he’s at home. They can’t all be coming off the transit route to collect/deliver.

The Chief Constable shows willing by detailing a squad to check all the trucks heading up that road, off the transit route which is clearly signed with signs prohibiting vehicles in transit from leaving the Autoroute.

The Police stop you, check why you are off the transit route, and fine you if you are not collecting/ delivering in that area.

The money taken off you is paid into the coffers of the local Chambre de Commerce. You are given a receipt.

When you manage to get to wherever it is you intended to go and spend some money, you hand over your receipt from the fine you paid. The business then deducts the fine from your bill for the service they have just supplied you with (Fuel at the Total, Duty free goods at Route 66, etc). If you’re well known to them they may even give you any remainder in cash. They keep the receipt.

They then go to the Chambre de Commerce and complain bitterly that they are loosing customers due to their customers being stopped and fined and prevented from doing business in their premises. They produce your receipt, along with all the others, as proof.

The Chambre de Commerce then refunds the business with the money they repaid back to you.

I know this as it was all explained to me by my mates at Route 66, after I had to pay a fine for coming off the transit route.
I had to wait a week for the chance to go back to Route 66, to get my money refunded.

I can see a showdown happening here. Its taking a living off the garages too with sandwich coffee and baccy sales.

If it wasnt for cheap squirt, Luxembourg would be bankrupt

Good to be back.

I was pulled coming off at exit one but had a CMR for Lux a small delivery on route to train at Frieburg. The police said I was OK but I must turn round on roundabout and go two junctions down they even gave me directions. So no route66 on way out.

But my mate said he was fined coming off at Capellen. He had an AS24 card, the station on west bound is BP so he went to next junction did a U-y under motorway and back to services where he could use his card at the texaco on the eastbound. Came out of services to exit one to go back over motorway and head west towards Metz and got pulled and fined.

He then got fined the following week going through Lux when Germany had a bank holiday he was sent back to Belgian border and parked up until 22.00.

I’ve started buying my ■■■■ at the services Capellen eastbound only a couple of euros more expansive than route66 and no risk of fine.

I’ve thought about photocoping a CMR or making one up and then claiming to be lost and ask those ‘kind officers’ for directions after they’ve flagged me down.
But wondered whether that would be more of a risk. They did not question the legit one I had however.

Were they actually waiting for your mate on top of the slip road then?

When they pulled me, they were a good few hundred yards up the road waiting for me, so there would have been no problem in just doing U Turn on top of the slip road.

I think he said they followed him off the motorway.

There’s no need for that, if you’re heading for France.

Smokeys is quite good too.
There is a map on the contacts page which can be zoomed in on, to show where it is.
As this is an industrial area, there are no MEP’s living near it, so no complaints about trucks going there, so no Police fines.

Presumably he was heading for Germany and ignored the signs on the border. These explain that it is prohibited to enter Lux’ on a Sunday if you can’t drive straight through. I think they also include holidays although I couldn’t swear to it. The point is, this is fairly well known. So why did he go into Lux’ in the first place?

Yes Simon correct when there is a driveing ban or holiday
in either FRANCE;or GERMANY;then no HGV,s who are
heading for these 2 countrys are not allowed to enter
Luxemberg,UNTIL the time stated on the warning signs
