Your link does not seem to go anywhere Pete. I have just looked at the IRU news page and there is nothing new on there.

Do you mean the Sunday and weekend bans and the fact you are not allowed access to Luxembourg when France or Germany is closed

yes have amended the link you should now see
a new page,as well as the old link.

@wheelnut,YES it is the ban as regards w/e and also when France,
Germany , have a national holiday as well, you should also see
a informations notice when you are filling up at the garages in Luxemburg, describeing what why and the fine for breaking
the ban,

I thought they used to do that years ago, but they let you have grace if you were traveling in the direction of Belgium.

NOT since the ban was brought in which was
1997…!!

I must be lucky then, a bit like running St Omer on a Saturday night.

As you’re about to cross the border into Lux’ from Belgium, there are big yellow signs which warn you of this. The signs include the times this ban is in force, for transiting to France or to Germany.

The idea behind the ban is to stop trucks jamming up the service area’s and parking on the slip-roads to them for the Sunday, after entering Lux’ knowing they cannot exit.
Presumably common sense among truck drivers was given a chance and shown to be lacking, so they’ve re-introduced the ban.
Even if the Lux’ Police don’t catch you on the Autoroute, they’ll check your tacho-discs / card and do you on that evidence, ie- if you park up in Cappellen Services after the ban starts, they’ve got you.

They forgot the fact that many Dutch and Belgian drivers were paid extra for crossing borders  That was the reason so many of them used to leave home on a Sunday and park in Aachen
