Urgent Route advice

Heading from rotherham to carlisle tonight and am planning on using the A66 across from the A1 to the M6 is this a good road (i think it’s ok) but i’ve not used it before, is it a commonly used trunk road.
Sorry if this is a daft question but if i dont ask you dont find out.
thanks

A66 not a bad road but watch your speed on the single carriageway sections

You probably found it by now, but there is only one way to Scotland from your neck of the woods

A66 would be my choice to

it’s been a long time since ive used the a66. has it all been updated to dual carrigeway, they were on with it the last time i was on it.

Yes JD its just about finished …redjase its approx 50 mile long …no fixed speed cams…but there are a couple of spots where mobile patrols sit where the two lanes come from 2 to 1 .

it can be done in 1 hour 5 in a truck depending on time of day

depends on traffic and time of day.
One alternative is MI,> M62>,M66> M65> M6

A1 to A69 then straight across to Carlisle but A69 has a few Scameras on it

a1—a69 185 miles
a1—a66 174 miles
m62— m6 194 miles
not a lot in it, 20 miles max, except that m62 etc is almost all m’way.

or even shorter at 162 miles is Bradford, Skipton, A65 , M6.

You wanna race?

I use all of these routes for various reasons.

The BEST route is A1 > A66 > M6.

Going A1 > A69 > M6 j44 takes at least 15 minutes longer.
In high winds though, the A69 is less exposed, in comparison to the A66.

The M62 takes even longer, there always seems to be congestion on it somewhere, it isn’t just the extra mileage.

thanks for replys guys cant believe a simple route request got such a response!
Rotherham drop was cancelled so goin from the derby side of ilkeston and on the advice of the regular drivers i went A50 m6 but i did come back on the A66 just for a change, less boring than straight there and back on the same road, A66 slightly quicker but more potentental for trouble in winter months there was slight sprinkling of snow, but no probs last night.
