Some advice required re. new job

Hey guys. I really want to get into heavy haulage, but have no experience. Does anyone have any recommendations as to which companies (if any) will give me an opportunity to learn the ropes? I am in cheshire but willing to travel a sensible distance i.e not too far, maybe 40-50 miles. I have emailed a few places, but as of yet I have heard nothing back. I had been in touch with Richard Long, but after reading all the bad comments about the place on here, I dont know whether it is worth calling them back.

Thanks in advance
TruckerMart

Richard Long is a bit more than 40-50 miles from Cheshire!

Despite the comments about them on here (most of which are probably close to the truth) I would give them a call. If you really, really want to get into heavy haulage, that might be a good place to get your experience… if they’ll let you use their equipment and clients to learn on.

You might not earn much (or anything) but you’ll learn about heavy haulage! (Or call Bill Watling at Besthorpe and ask his advice!)

Richard Long has a advert in the Derby Telegraph tonight for drivers

i know they are a fair way from cheshire, but was told they let you take the wagon home? I also explained that I have no experience, but it didnt seem to matter

are they actually any good though? I mean, i have read on here that they treat you like crap, but where i work now is the same. Also does anyone know what the pay is like?

Give it a go… and keep in mind all those stories you’ve read on here… The money won’t be great, but the equipment is said to be top class! I think he treats the trucks with more TLC than the drivers though…

And why would a Norfolk based, specialist haulier be looking for drivers in Derbyshire I wonder? :unamused:

To earn decent money you’ll be back and forth all over Europe with agricultural equipment. If you want an easy life you’ll be doing a bit of bulk sugar beet work in winter…

things is, its all well and good having a top class motor, but if the pays crap then thats no good. The wagon itself aint gona pay my bills :frowning:

no mate never lol

ALE or Abnormal Load Engineering are just up the road from me at Hixon on the outskirts of Stafford. From Cheshire: Come down the A51 from Stone, though Sandon and Weston then take the next left to the old airfield at Hixon. They shift the heavy electrical stuff for Alstom (GEC as was) in Stafford (huge transformers and the like). They have several very large Faun prime movers.

I think ive seen them, at jct 16 m6 regularly. I dont wanna do that kind of heavy haulage. more like in a normal looking artic if you get what i mean

Oh, you confused me by saying heavy haulage. you mean you just want to be a truck driver. Do you have a licence?

Hixon, thats it thanks big jons dad  can sleep easier now without trying to remember where i tipped one of those multiwheel platform thingys they use, moves by hydraulics mostly used by mammoet.
loaded in the new power station in malaga with 6 others all for one movement :open_mouth:
