SAD LOSS

DUST ERE SURRY

Good evening all good people of this site , my first time on.

I would like, if i may, tell you about a man i have known from the

Age of 16, as a young apprentice , truck mechanic, was when i first met him.

MR ERIC DAWSON

Who lived then in congleton , with his wife and two sons, eric then was an
Owner driver, having worked at joey harts in BIDDULPH, he then operated
As a subby.
I was hooked on trucks ,and any chance to have a ride was taken
When i had a holiday. He said i could go with him to london fantastic.
Eric then had a commer two stroke , and a 4 in line trailor flat.
Down to downings tunstall , for a load of tiles for roofs, hand ball full load
Gee whizzzzzzzz this is trucking , load it yourself.
Half a day later we are off to london , them days M 1 finished at crick so it
Was A5 and all the old cafes. To motorway.

Slept in cab on toddington the night bloody legs gone next morning, then
,off to the big smoke, we found the drop ,building site, me throwing them off
Eric catching and stacking.
When empty eric rang someone from red box and we are off for return load.
Some london dock a load of paper reels , by 4 oclock we are off to lodgings elephant and castle, one pound a night eh, incl evening meal.

Eric meets up with men from prestons and congleton board co , drivers from
Our area , good old times, plenty of tales , from the then nights of the road .
Following morning we are off but get held up by police , road closed by
Barrier we are at the front and eric spoke to them and it was just a convoy
Of cars we can see someone waving in a big open top saloon , bobby says
It is uri gargarin THE FIRST MAN IN SPACE gee whizzzz what a great
Moment for a young man to see.

HAPPY DAYS

As you said a good man, one of old school ans sadly missed.

As Gazza says I posted a picture on the Cheshire hauliers thread of my Dawson ERF on the way to Ullapool in the early eighties.
