I am 72 but fit (touch wood)
I received DVLA licence renewal application.
I filled it in stating that I no longer needed my HGV licence.
On consideration and after the offer of a very nice little one or two day per week job offer, I think I would like my licence back. I have written as such to DVLA bur not had a reply. Has anyone done similar?
Nope but I would imagine you would need to fill in the appropriate form(s) rather than just write to them but I can’t be certain.
Mine has now lapsed and I have no intention of renewing.
I have contacted the DVLA using the contact service on the website, always replied in a day or and very helpful…
I agree you may need to complete some forms but they should adviuse

Assuming that your HGV entitlement has expired you’ll need to complete and send in forms D2 (Licence Renewal Form) and D4 (HGV Medical Form).

Presume you renewed your licence,minus you hgv at 70,
Not sure how you would go on with adding your hgv licence again,or how long it would run for, as you will need to renew your normal licence again at 73
