Luckiest man alive? - 'Escort' driver hit by his convoy

Ref THIS story - a little confused reporting but anyway…

Actual incident info as I was told tonight - truck driver of a large load fell asleep at the wheel and hit his own ■■■■■■-vehicle. His load was dislodged in the incident. (Report says a ford ■■■■■■ as they’ve misunderstood the statement - it was deffo his convoy ■■■■■■).

First, I’m impressed how quick from crash to conviction this was, in the case of a foreign driver.
In a way it’s a shame it doesn’t work that way on domestic drivers too. Feet shouldn’t have chance to touch the floor.

Second, my uncle was one of the senior attending fire and rescue. He told us tonight that it’s the most badly damaged car wreck he’s ever seen, and he’s been a fire fighter since the late 70s and seen some nasty stuff.
But the ■■■■■■ driver mostly crawled out (as I understand it, rather than a full cut-out) with minor injuries and was discharged after 6 hours.

Astounding how someone can not only survive, but walk away from such carnage. Lucky man!

blimey, that is lucky!

What proof the driver was there that he fell asleep  ,his ■■■■■■ was watching his mirrows much  looking at the size of the thing they should have had co-drivers as well

 :open_mouth:  that makes zero sense OLT? sadly it’s not uncommon for pilot vans to be hit here and on the continent, just usually not by their own load

that is why it dont make sence  cus it was

Without knowing the exact reasons and noting having questioned further I took it as read, Not something that’s joked about really, and not something that’s bandied about lightly by men such as fire and rescue officers.
So I took it on face value.
Presumably he half demolished a decent-sized van and when the police asked what happened, he hadn’t the foggiest idea.
There must have been strong enough evidence to send him to the clink for 3 months either way round.

I do hope that the VOSA and the POLICE

send a report to the german BAG and also to the local

ordnungs amt, WHY because even though the driver

caused the accident, it all relates to the fact that

EMPLOYERS in germany use the fear of being

made unemployed to force drivers to work harder

YES they can say no, but unfortunatly they then lose

their jobs, get given a 12week ban, on receiveing any

money, from the either the labour exchange or

social services, please if any of YOU who are

members here also work in the enforcement

field, as regards transport, DO place in motions actions

that will aslo effect the FIRMS;AND this is not a

excuse for the drivers as he should have said

NO, but there ■■?
