Laser Detectors

Got all the alerts about cameras on my tomtom but can anyone point me in the direction of a good laser detector ?

(disclaimer)
Speed kills dont do it

Seriously though, I think road angel are about the best, although most expensive.

The question I always ask is - “Why do you need one?”

Surely if you have TomTom,then I’m assuming you subscribe to the camera database on the PocketGPS forum. If so,then save your dosh, and set the mobile camera warning to a mile.Even if there isn’t one present on the road at that time, you’ll be warned about it,and slow down accordingly.

That is,assuming you have a TT that will let you warn about cameras on your route, and not just in an area of circumference of where you currently are, otherwise it will go off at the nearest hint of a camera, and drive you nuts.

Ken.

From what i have seen/read on laser detecters i would save my cash unless anyone uses one and thinks differently?

Ken setting the TT alerts at a mile will have the thing bleeping every 5 secs. especially if you have it set to warn about stuff not on route.

as for radar detectors, the yanks seem to do a lot of em ■■■■■■ seem to be the best of the bunch escortradar.com/shop.htm

Radar/laser detectors are useless, by the time it notifies you, its very often too late, what you need is a blinder.

Blinders confuse the speed gun, and are of course illegal. However, the fact that they are exactly the same as the gadget that operates automatic gates is very handy!

I think a SatNav with speed cameras locations would suffice.

Its rare to see the police standing around with a speed gun these days and talivan’s i think they have to be set up at certain locations can’t just do out find any old spot.

Can set SpeedCamera POI just to alert you if they are on the same road you are traveling on, rather than having it go off all the time.

I have the TT V3 Europe, and it is set to only warn me if the scameras are on route,so if it is half a mile to the left or right, and I’m not going that way,as per the routing of the journey,it won’t go off.

As long as I know there is a scamera site,I’m happy enough, rather than forking out for a laser detector.

Ken.

What is the point in a Laser Detector??

Surely If the Laser Detector can detect the Laser, then the Laser will have already detected you and nicked you for speeding, so as well as being 3 points and £60 out of pocket, you’ll have a Laser Detector wedged up your arse as well, and its pretty uncomfortable to drive with one stuck up there i’ll tell you… Not that i know, my mate told me in the pub…

Correct.

Save yer money and look well up the road in front…you’ll see the yellow stripe in plenty of time to slow down

Saw a copper pointing his laser this morning parked up near Batley, he didn’t get me, but I’m REALLY REALLY hoping he got the twerp in the private hire coming the other way overtaking everyone, across the hatches in a 30mph limit, nearly ran me off the road Angry 6. (It was almost worth turning round to gloat at the pillock, but had the family with me).

Laser detectors are also set to be made illegal as well AFAIR.

I have TT6 europe on my IPAQ and have set up the warnings in relation to the speed in the area 30mph - 300yrds etc

I believe they are already illegal, My Cousin’s Missus works for BlackSpot(RoadAngel) and they no longer have built in Laser Detection, its now an optional plug in, which IIRC you are warned when you buy it that its illegal.

Sometimes, the old ways are the best!

When I pass a speed trap, I always give a flash and thumbs down to truckers passing the opposite way. And I’ve always been “thumbs downed” before approaching one.

Quite

 Hear Hear.

Besides Speed Doesnt Kill, Its Been Proved That The Rapid Deceleration
Associated with all RTCs ( No Accidents Anymore ) is the Killer !! :open_mouth:

I have the plug in laser detector fitted to my road angel…

In the four years I have had it, I’ve NEVER heard it detect anything, even whilst driving past a traffic policeman with his laser bang on me.

Not the sound investment I thought it was. :unamused:
