Hi Everyone

Hi guys and girls, first post on here so hello to everyone, been reading the posts on here for a few weeks now and some helpful stuff on here

A little different from most that get started truck driving, my son is a builder and is expanding into the concrete business, cannot afford to pay a driver full time so has asked me to drive it  he is paying for the course etc and i must admit I am really looking forward to it, I am going for class 2 (C) have always loved driving and am a driving instructor at the moment

I will only be driving for him on a casual basis until it picks up but have already come up against the first hurdle, I had my medical on Monday and the doctor found out that my blood pressure was a little high :frowning: must admit i have not been to the docs for about 15 years !! she said it happens a lot and that it will not affect my application but may delay it if the DVLA need proof that it is under control

Any of you guys had any experience of high BP in the past and what I can expect to happen next ?

As an ADI, you should not need the next bit

[__GENERAL DRIVING TIPS *BEFORE* STARTING LGV C TRAINING (Link)__](http://trucknetuk.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=31611&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=)

If you click the link in my signature or this avatar pic it will lead you to an index where you can access a lot more info which may be of use to you

To book any LGV training I suggest the trainee-to-be, visits the training school, meets the head person(s) and has a quick look at the truck BEFORE parting with any money.

Using the site Search facility and putting the words TRAINING AND WHERE you wish to train may turn up some recommendations.

This is a link to read if you have 2 jobs and one of them is LGV driving

welcome

depends what your diastolic rate was and if you are required to take medication

presumably you wernt prescribed any so your diastolic rate was higher than normal due to the stress of having a medical

anything over 90 diastolic is borderline and if medication is prescribed thats nothing to worry about so long as its under control

I found these quotes by using the search facility at the top of the page

yes sorry i had it added as a provisional just wondered if i had to do the class c then ce or as ive got ce provisional still valid until 2015 i can save some cash by skipping the c bit, also regarding the medical i suffer from high blood pressure but this is controlled by medication would that be accepted in a medical.

Blood pressure is ok if it is controlled by medication. It is the reading on the day that counts. The problem is that blood pressure can affect eyesight too.

Hi greenarmy, Same here mate. :frowning:

My (slightly) high blood pressure was detected in a routine way and is treated by a very small dose of lisinopril at bedtime each day.
There are separate figures for what’s acceptable in terms of both the systolic and diastolic measurements that together give you your blood pressure figure.
The difference between the systolic and diastolic figures is also taken into account.
I’d suggest that you consult your GP to get accurate info, because I’m afraid I can’t remember the precise measurement limits involved.

To answer your question, even with slightly high blood pressure, I have passed medicals at ages 45 and 50 and I still have my full LGV C+E entitlement.

Good luck mate, but please get it checked out properly.
(And keep taking the tablets. :grimacing:)

Cheers for the info guys, doc says she cannot say that I suffer from high BP as it is a one off reading but she has put these readings on the D4

Have got to have a blood test done so they can get some base figures and then back to docs for BP tests again, in the meantime I am going to send off for my provisional but have no idea if this will delay it or not ?

I’ve just had my medical and was a bit worried about the blood pressure bit on account of the fact that I tend to suffer with “white coat syndrome” i.e I don’t like medical environments which in themselves raise my blood pressure (apparently a lot of blokes suffer with this  ).

However, on the D4 form, the doctor is only asked to provide a reading on the day if the readings are over 200 for the systolic and over 100 for the diastolic so if you’re only a tad high it won’t be an issue. I was a bit high and got my provisional back within a few days, no questions asked .

If it is over these figures then DVLA may seek reassurance that the condition is controlable i.e with medication, which of course it can be so worse case scenario would be a slight delay in actually getting the provisional.

Either way, it’s a good idea to keep an your blood pressure anyway :exclamation:

As you have to send the D2 & D4 forms together and the doc has not given you a clean bill of health then it is likely that you will get passed onto to DVLA medical section and that will cause BIG DELAYS.

My advice would be to wait for a clean bill of health to be put on the form and then send the lot off.

You can always pick up another D4 form to use to save making amendments to the old one  :bulb:

That’s a great idea Rog, forms not been sent yet so i will have a word with the doc and see how my readings are in a few weeks
