Help citroen c5

i know this is not a trucking problem but i have a severe problem to do with my car
on sat eve the bottom pulley went ( common fault i have now been told ) :imp: :imp:
altenator light came on
engine then died
came home on a tilt n lift :unamused:
got new pulley ( euro car parts £100 cheaper than clitroen )
fitted same
car wont go
anyone help it turns over fine , injectors are firing , pulled the return pipe off so seem to be getting fuel

if youve no ideas can you lend me a box of matches

When you say bottom pulley went do you mean the pulley came off :frowning: or the belt snapped off the pulley?.

If it is a 2003 model or newer with an HDi engine it could be an immobiliser problem, caused by the battery getting very flat when the pulley went or having the battery disconnected for a long period. If you can hear a constant beeping noise when cranking the car it is definitely an immobiliser problem. A Citroen dealer, or specialist Citroen garage with a Diag 200 machine, can reset this. I know it sounds daft but if you have another key try using this to start it, it can work if the codes have lost sync.

Either that or when the pulley came off, the timing belt might have jumped causing the timing to be out.

ooh sounds abit ominous Bagpuss i don’t know much about engines but i know that if the belt goes it can bend the valves and near enough total the engine, i hope this hasn’t happend to you mate could be an expensive rebuild if it has

the pulley fell apart
its in two or more bits with rubber between them
the rubber fell to bits
bloody french two world wars and they do this to us
best /worst thing it happened on the way back from ordering the wifes new car

yeah you guessed it citroen

Dont want to be the bearer of bad news but i think youll find that pulley is on the same shaft as your cam belt which could be the reason for it not starting…Also the pulley should be replaced at 60,000 miles.

I hope not but if you know how to check do it if you dont let me know and i will tell you how.

All advice is welcome
i think i know but at the moment i’m totaly stuffed
i have always listened to advice
i might not take any notice but thats just me
i am trying to do this while working nights with limited rest oh arent tms such wonderful people
thanks

now wheres that spare fuel can
