" Hello All "

Good Evening All !

Iv’e been wandering around for a while taking all the info, and thought it was about time to say Hello’ Iv’e got a C+E Wag and Drag course booked up in a couple of weeks with Wallace Lgv Training at there Battersea site in London, and just wanted to refresh me brain a bit with the current Rule’s n Reg’s. I Passed me Class 2 in May 2005, and have been driving a 6 wheeler Tipper/Grab Lorry collecting and Laying Hot Bitumenous Materials since then. I also drove a 7.5tonner for a 10 years doing the same job before this. So now its time to get away from the Graft of laying the Black stuff, and to hopefully get me C+E Licence!’ after losing a few bad habits that have been picked up along the way of course! So any other Advice About Wag n Drag C+E would be much Appreciated Fellow Drivers!!

Welcome, matey …the ol’ soaks on here might point you to the newbie threads, but I’m intrigued why you’re preferring wag ‘n’ drag. Maybe you’ve summat lined up?

Cheer’s HappyKeith, I did an Assessment With The company Named and they was doing an offer on the Wag n Drag course saving a few hundred quid" so i went for it! originally i was looking to book it up after christmas . The Guy who did my assessment also told me that from next year, anybody looking to go for there Lgv Licence will have to do 40 hours training, Dont know how true that is.

 Hi kenno78, WELCOME. :grimacing:

As Happy Keith, and being an old soak myself, I’ll point you towards ROG’s signature, which contains links to all kinds of interesting stuff.

 You won’t have to wait long, or do a search for ROG, cos he’ll be here soon enough. :grimacing:

If you take your test in a rigid pulling a trailer, does it give you full C+E entitlement with no restrictions? For example, after passing in said combination, would someone be able to jump into an artic legally.

YES - BUT consider this…
Your first job is likely to be on artics and they are different :exclamation:
Why put yourself through the extra stress and pressure on your first day in a new job
A lot of training companies use W&Ds because it is a cheaper option than buying a proper artic.

My advice - LEARN IN THE TYPE OF VEHICLE THAT YOU WILL BE DRIVING.

Stuie:
I applied for a transfer in Feb. when I passed my C and heard nothing so I took the C+E in July. Yesterday I got a phone call, for an assessment drive and interview for today.
Interview was ok. now out for a drive in an artic (I did my test in a waggon and drag) what a difference. Driving forwards was fine. Just took bends a bit wider and kept out a bit more on roundabouts watching the rear wheels.
The gear box was not good to say the least it was a 4 over 4 with another button for half gears. It was so stiff I had trouble getting 5 and 6 it was a real heav ho.
Now the reverse, in the w/d I eventually did ok I knew how to control it. The artic no hope the instructor helped and we eventually got into the bay( no one and a half vehicle witdth) it was about 3" off the tyres so tight.
So I thought I had blown it.
Then I got a phone call saying I have the job. They said the main drive was ok and they will teach me how to reverse.
So pleased!!!.
As a conclusion waggon and drag are so different to an artic. I wish I had trained in an artic. It was a real wake up call.

Rubbish info mate and IMO, you got conned into taking that W&D - he is thinking of the Periodic (ongoing) DRIVER CPC which, as a C licence holder, you need to complete 35 hours of attendance training by 2014

In Birmingham they do a Class 2 in a short four wheeler and the next week hook a trailer on the back to do a Class 1.

These guys then go to an agency and say they have all kinds of experience when the really don’t have a clue. No idea about H&R regs; never dropped a trailer; never done any reversing except for the test; never used a gearbox with more than 6; never had any weight; etc etc.

Thanks for the Welcome DieselDave, and Rog

The company did tell me i can do a refresher day on there own artic after passing wag n drag, so maybe i’ll get crimbo out the way and go for that too’ Thanks also stuie for that Advice mate. I wont be looking to pass and jump straight into Artic work at the moment. Also i just wanted to know about that 40 hour’s driver training thing i mentioned earlier. The Instructor which i had for my wag n drag assessment told me i would need 15 hours training, and also told me as from next year any person that wants to Train for there Lgv licence will have to do 40 hours training!.i did mention to him about the 35hour cpc thing, but he was adament about it!im sure someone here will have any info on this if it is true,

Thanks alot Chaps’

I passed class 1 in wagon & drag & then got a class 1 job in artics. I had to teach myself to drive all over again!!! If you want to drive artics then pass in an artic as the 2 are completely different.
Its worth paying that little bit more, then when you get in an artic you’ll be alot more confident.
I learnt the hard way!!

i passed my test in a wag and drag in the army and didnt drive an artic for 6 years till i got out and then my first job was driving an erf ec11 with a eaton twin splitt box . what a shock that was i struggled massively for weeks just wish i had done my test in an artic

Ok, lets get this driver cpc thing sorted.

There are TWO types of DRIVER CPC.

The INITIAL (to get a C licence) & the PERIODIC (ongoing) for when you have the C licence (or C+E)

The INITIAL driver cpc is purely for a C (or C1) licence acquisition and is the same as what is done now but with some senario questions added as an extra theory test and a half hour extra of questions about certain areas of safety which may include physically showing the examine how to strap, chain, rope a load etc

The PERIODIC driver cpc is to be (unless they change it) an ATTENDANCE of 35 hours of training at an approved centre or with an approved trainer and can be done in 5 x 7 hour sessions - the 7 hour sessions can be split into 2 half consecutive days.
Dunno what it will cover or consist of cos the DSA etc have not finalised it yet :exclamation:
If you have a C (or C1) licence on Sept 10 2009 then the 35 hours will need to be done by Sept 2014 to retain your right to drive for HIRE or REWARD - it does NOT affect your right to retain your LGV licence.

The medical requirements will not change.

Hope this makes things a little clearer - feedback please

Excellent!!

perfect rog, very well explained
