Sieverite,
Evening Harry, just to recall your Korean adventure, i remember talking to an ex REME soldier (recently passed) and he related to the “freezing conditions” (without doubt much worse than we have just experienced) and the need to light bonfires under the CAT D8 earthmovers to defrost the gearboxes and transmissions!!!
Elddis Transport
Yes Paulycats we wasn’t bothered with gearbox and diff
freeze-ups but I seem to remember the rads were filled
up with neat anti freeze when parked, we had no traxi’s
so don’t know a lot about them I was only there for one
Winter and Summer but two totally different changes of
the weather frozen solid to baking dry heat.in the night
the guard used to always have a driver on duty and his
job was to start and stop the motors of the in use stuff
to make sure we could roll at a moments notice.
