Everyones an expert!

Hi all. Having read the post about Truck & Driver mag,( which I hasten to add Rob K did have a point with his analysis of article content ) its got me thinking. If T&D have got it so wrong, what do you actually want to see in T&D? Maybe the format has become outdated? Me? I think it does what it sys on the tin.

And, is it me? Or are most of T&D critics BLINGAPHOBICS!!!

Play nicely!!!

Iā€™d like to see a regular feature called a day in the life. They ghost a driver for a day on a different job every month. One month about fridges, another about heavy hauls, boxes, tippers etc. Give everyone a look at things they havenā€™t done them selves

i didnt realise everybodies views when i made the ā€œTRUCK & DRIVERā€ post (although they take part in the question of the month).

I have no problems with T&D and i enjoy reading itā€¦reading newmercmans article everymonth is interesting due to the fact that he works in a variety of places/countriesā€¦This months being my favourite one! I mean, how many of us actually dream of going to vegasā€¦He drives through it and occasionally has a flutter (although it might seem second nature to him now  )

And although i buy the magazine ā€œTruckingā€, which is more or less the same thing, i like reading about and seeing what hardware, haulage firms are buying lately and its also handy for any WTD-VOSA-General driving news.
I can see that the old cliche that all truckers buy trucking magazines isnt true (its more, readers wives and clouts of a trout :open_mouth:  ) but surely it cant be so bad that everything about it has to be critisized.
(gimme a couple of months to see if the magazine repeats its self and then i`ll re-input my thoughtsā€¦ until then, it gets my vote! :grimacing:

@ OVLOV jay, i think they cover the day in the life of- with the articles (on different types of lorries and operators.) Although i do see where your coming fromā€¦an article of your topic, in the style of newmercmansā€¦except without him!

I like my trucks the same as my womenā€¦

Clean

Bare

And not to frilly in the curtain department.

I enjoy reading nmmā€™s diary too, and while I have nothing against reading about the origins of a tipper operator from the back of beyond, whose 100 year old founder still puts in his 3 fifteens, Iā€™d find it more useful to know what it takes to do said job. What do you do on a quarry. How do you use the equipment etc. Only a few months ago a regular poster left his comfort zone for an unknown job. He soon came back telling how his optimism had turned to regret. If heā€™d seen an article about the industry before hand, he may have thought twice

I would like to see a publication that tells the truth of how it isā€¦A publication that takes on VOSA, a publication that tells the world how bad for your health driving really is, a publication that lives and breathes in the real world and is not afraid to lobby Govt. on certain issues.
We may have rules that we currently have to abide to, but just how stupid are these rules?
A publication with back bone would be right, not one that just cow-tows to the rules and the biggest ad. revenueā€¦

I can`t put my finger on it but i think i remember said regulars post. And i totally agree with you (again). :unamused:

articles like that would surely be useful to me, being a new HGV driver. Id certainly gain alot from reading someones diary and how things are done/operated/handled. Maybe T&D can use a few drivers diaries from this site (just to get the ball rolling). Ive sure laughed and winced at the stories told on here! :open_mouth:

@ att, i also agree with you but the world is so PC nowadays, people are to frightened the MI5 will come looking for them just from the mere mention of revolting against the GOVT or wanting to make money (for the right reasons)! :unamused: :smiling_imp:

Do a report about the difference in how youngsters are trained in
Europe when they wish to become Professional Lorry Drivers,
In Germany they do THREE YEAR course and are taught at a collage
and they work in a transport company at the same time, here they are also
taught to drive, from car, fork lift, truck, crane(fitted-on-truck), ADR, etc.
they will also work in the Transport office,so why not show how
each country trains its future work force,

Also GET reports on how each countryā€™s form of VOSA works

have a acknowledge expert come in and do reports on how
one lashes loads and why, Here it may be the germans or swiss
have the best ways of teaching, all I can say is that in the UK
load lashing seems not to be top one every ones list, and one hears
the well known sentence, I have been driving for years and its never moved,
YES this may be true in some cases, However we now live in a time period
where people, love to claim and the insurance firms love refusing to pay out
when some one has not done the job correctly,

LOL, why would we wanna see how the germans do it? Its not like anything would change for the better in this country, it would probably just make everyone jealous and give more of a reason to moan how "bad weve got it"! Im getting ready to take my foot out of my mouth!

Touā€“chey!

Thanks for the kind words chaps  Stonehouse69 although I go through or into Vegas often it hasnā€™t become second nature yet and all the while thereā€™s a Hooters casino there, I very much doubt it will :sunglasses:

I think youā€™re on to something with the ā€˜how is that doneā€™ kind of thing, instead of concentrating on the truck, more on the driver and what his/her particular job involves, personally Iā€™d find it interesting and it could provide us all with some useful tips :bulb:

The problem is with showing others how you do your job, is that there are so many experts, youā€™d get a slagging off for something like using the wrong colour pen to fill in your digicard or wearing a top that doesnā€™t match your hi-viz.

Question from another ā€œexpertā€ What exactly do you write on your Digicard?

Well spotted that man! I was going to write tacho, but as some of the things these ā€œexpertsā€ :unamused: come up with are so ridiculous I thought Iā€™d would be as well.
