Lorry Driver Hit By Three Vehicles On M5

Sky News 10:30am UK, Thursday January 28, 2010

A lorry driver has died after being hit by three vehicles on the M5 motorway in Gloucestershire.

Police say none of the drivers who hit the man stopped after the incident - and that it’s possible they aren’t aware they collided with him.

He was struck after getting out of his own vehicle on the southbound hard shoulder between junctions 14 and 15 near Bristol.

He was apparently hit by a lorry and then two cars, said Avon and Somerset police.

Two lanes of the motorway have been closed by the incident, which happened at the start of this morning’s commuter rush hours.

Detectives say they are treating the motorway “as a crime scene.”

Police are trying to trace the vehicles involved in the incident and are urging witnesses to contact them on 0845 456 7000.

Our Sincere Condolences to all the family’s concerned

By Joanna Bourke on February 1, 2010 5:07 PM | No Comments | No TrackBacks

The HGV driver killed on the M5 last week, in a suspected hit-and-run collision was named by police today, as 47 year-old Paul Edwards of Crestline Court, Northampton .

Edwards stopped his truck at approximately 7am on Thursday 28 January, between J14 and J15 of the M5 southbound, in south Gloucestershire.

Edwards left his cab and was hit by up to three passing lorries. None of them stopped.

The driver of one of these vehicles has now contacted Avon and Somerset Police after hearing about the incident on the radio. He was interviewed but not charged.

The police say it is possible the other motorists might not be aware of what happened. Any witnesses to the incident are urged to come forward.

RIP

thoughts go to the family of the driver, lets hope that this tragic event is a lesson to us that if you ever stop on the hardshoulder to get out the passenger side and stay away from the live lane
