M5 01:00 30/4/2014

This appears to be where road crews were working last night placing the temp steel barriers in place in preparation for the current on going central barrier replacement into concrete barriers we now see.

A sad loss and painful reminder that the roads are never safe be it a driver, stranded motorist or the highways agency’s work force.
Yes we have all seen the silly cone throwers that think they are immortal in some of their actions walking into a live lane with oncoming traffic passing at times only feet away.

Maybe they should be made to have a safe system of 5ft between a working area and a live lane and NO-ONE should be in that DEADMAN zone.

A pedestrian has died following a collision with a lorry on the M5 in Somerset.

This happened just before 01:00 on Wednesday April 30th between junctions 21 and 22 near Weston.

Officers say lorry travelling northbound was in collision with a pedestrian at about 00.51am and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Collision investigators are keen to speak to anyone who was travelling along the motorway at the time of the incident, who may have information to help their enquiries.

Anyone able to help is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on the force number 101.

that’s the thing though.

I’ve had the chucker’s walk into the live lane round the cone to throw it back to the HS when packing up … bloody silly especially when there’s systems available that lay down and pick up cones without the need for any crew to be on the road.

Is this the same “accident”?

Yes sounds like it, what a bloody tragedy.

seems strange 1 account says a pedestrian and the other refers to the car and lorry.
