DofT urges DRIVERS to give views on longer trailers

Drivers are being urged to give their views on allowing longer trailers.

One thing I find funny is how out of touch DofT is, asking if drivers are paid by the load or by quantity of pallets carried? lol I’ve never known anyone who’s paid in this way…it’s always been salary or p/h.

Whatever ever your views on longer trailers, at least drivers are being deliberatly canvassed for them. (in spite of some of the questions showing how little the DoFT actually understands the world of road transport and ground level).

You do have an opportunity to put your views directly to the people who will make the decision on longer trailers. We would be intersted in what views you put forward to the DoFT if you are willing to share them possibly for an article in one of the magazines. (so if you dont want to see your comments in print please state clearly on your post or dont reply to the thread ! )

It’s obvious that the longer trailers issue is a fudge being made by the designers because they’re being held back from producing better designed LHV’s by all the different interest groups who stand to lose out if we had better more efficient trucks. It seems like the only design on offer is a flawed idea to increase volume but not weight carrying capacity and using existing axle spacings.

So it’s just a badly thought out design of longer overhangs which are likely to increase the possibilities of tail sweep and front corner problems and axle weight issues if anyone is unlucky enough for the extra length to be mistakenly used as a way of also increasing the amount of weight put on.

I replied directly to the consultation, after running it through a speelchecka of course :stuck_out_tongue:

it’s a shame drivers wern’t canvased for their views on the DCPC before that was introduced let alone what we think of a trailer that will carry what ? an extra 2 pallets :unamused:
