British Petrol

has overtaken the Logistic for his Petroltankers and is now fighting against interesting of overtaken Drivers?
just got somethings from the news that Strike is in mind.

Do you mean that BP have just taken their tanker fleet ‘in house’ and they are trying to change the terms and conditions of the drivers that came with the contract - and because of this there may be a strike?

If so, could be interesting. It would certainly be a more effective way of highlighting problems in the industry than the fuel protests - drivers on strike = no fuel deliveries = panic on the high street (with an added bonus of a hit to BP’s profits which are far too high)

According to the local news there is to be a five day strike at the Kingsbury Terminal from Friday.

Yea,and there is a trouble about the Pensionsheme or so

Pension scheme is what has caused the unrest. Apparently the transfer from Exel, the company running the site for BP, have a final salary scheme and BP are looking to move them onto a defined benefit system.

BP gave exel the contract to run their tankers. Their drivers agreed to move because exel agreed to carry on with their defined benifit pension. BP has now ended that contract and wants the drivers back, but BP is refusing the pay the defined pension, instead offering a money purchase. BP have been crafty in a way buy getting rid of drivers with the expencive pension and wan the same drivers back but only giving them the cheap pension.

From what Ive heard however alot of the old BP drivers are sticking with exel because of the pension (which I would too).

Don’t understand why people bother with “company” pensions. They aren’t worth a bean these days and you never get back what you put in. I remember a prog of the tele a good months ago about Boots workers at Nottingham. They’d been paying in substantial amounts all their life and then at the last minute Boots changed the contract or the pension or something and they only got about a quarter of what they put in and there was jack [zb] the workers could do about it. Waste of time; just put your savings under the floor boards (and hope your house doesn’t catch fire  ).
